Emergency!!!--Head unit install help

Hey guys, I'm installing my Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD.

My wire harness I ordered is only 1 plug. There are 2 plugs from the factory. Is one just not used or am I gonna have to get another wire harness??????? The factory deck I have is the CD/Cassette 1.5 Din unit on my 2003 ---DirtySCREW

I'm thinking on harness controls the factory CD player and the other controls the cassette. Am I correct???

I have installed many decks and they were a piece of cake. this unit however has SO much more since it's video and all.

On the BLACK ground wire from the Pioneer harness is a connection that you ground it to you chassis. Then there's a BLACK ground wire from the wire harness. Do I cut that connection off and put the 2 BLACKS together like I have in the past? OR DOES IT NEED TO BE GROUNDED TO THE CHASSIS B/C OF THE DVD?--DirtySCREW

What I would do is give crutchfield a call and act as if your planning on buying a harness for that vehicle. I don't want to give you the wrong advice b/c im not 100% sure on what your trying to do

Thanks, thats a great idea. I'm just trying to wire it up and get the harnesses correct. It's been awhile and this Pioneer dvd unit has a bunch more wires!--DirtySCREW

of course I got the BS answer that they will supply the wire harness with the purchase. I'm seeing that the 2 wiring harnesses that plug into the back of the factory deck are "Ford Premium Sound" with an external Ford amplifier somewhere. Just my luck. I didn't know Lariats came with premium sound. Any ideas?--DirtySCREW

You only use the plug that fits. I have the same unit(bt version) and my truck is an 01. I had the 2 plugs also, but just hooked up the one that fit and left the other hanging there. It works great. Im trying to understand the other thing you are talking about. Are you trying to bypass the dvd? A little more info and I should be able to help some.

Nevermind the ground question...I got it figured out. I've wired everything up inside tonight but was worrying about that second factory wire harness. I'm googled and googled and kept coming across parts of articles saying that the 2 harnesses were "Premium Sound" with an external Ford amp. That would be a nightmare!!! And Yea, I'm doing the bypass mod as well. Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much jpf150, a fellow NorthCarolinain! You da man!--DirtySCREW

Well, I got the wire harness wired up...I still have to get everything installed in the truck tomorrow...cause it's freakin COLD outside right now! I've been taking PICS along the way and plan to do a "How To" thread...as the other one is like 3 years old. Thanks again--DirtySCREW

I understand, it is freezing outside. What part of NC are you in? They are calling for snow tomorrow here. You did better than me, I didn't feel like taking pictures and stuff when I put mine in, I was ready to enjoy my head unit!

Hey Dirty,
I don't know how you are doing the bypass or where you got the instructions from but I am going to give you a heads up...... The relay bypass will NOT work with the P3200-DVD! It needs to be pulsed twice! The relay will only pulse it once. You will still get the screen with the warning message.
I had to install a switch. I can leave the switch on and then just flip off then on once the unit is powered. I tried to find a pushbutton switch, but they were all too large for my liking. I got a very small toggle switch from Auto Zone and installed it directly into the side of the center console. The relay was removed.

Yes, I am POSITIVE about the relay. I tried that already..... it needs to be pulsed twice.
Dirty, the ground hooks to the ground on the harness. Thats it. Connect your wires from the stereo to the wires on the harness. Plug it in on both ends and bolt it in place. DONE! If you have NAV also, it will get a little more complicated but if not, it's easy.
