Emergency!!!--Head unit install help
I am now curious..... you used a 4 pin relay with ground going to pin 86 and 87. You connected the amp turn on wire to pin 85, and the green trigger wire to the last pin and it worked? I did the same and the screen told me that I had to release the P brake and re-apply it.
It has the same wires..... power constant, power switched, ground, amp turn on, power antenna, speakers front and rear, left and right, both + and -, and dimmer for the lights. This is all pretty standard wiring in ALL vehicles. The relay worked like it was supposed to..... then the screen said I needed to release the brake and re apply. As soon as I removed a wire from the relay and reconnected it, the screen came up as usual.

Followed that video to a tee....and it worked. ---------DirtySCREW

Now, let me also say that I connected the black ground wire coming from the relay to the black ground coming from the wire harness adapter. THEN the black ground coming FROM the Pioneer harness I had to cut and make a longer lead and ground THAT to the chassis! He even says in the video that there's a double ground....which is what I have---hope this helps ---------DirtySCREW

If you take a meter and set to ohms and check the black wire in the harness to ANY ground in the truck, you will see that they are connected. An Extra ground isn't going to accomplish anything.
I actually have 4 grounds in mine.
1 from the head unit
1 from the relay
1 from the nav unit
1 from my sub amp
They ALL go directly to the black wire in the trucks harness.
Once again... I'm still curious.... I might just have to go back out and install the relay again and see what happens. I know it was hooked up correctly (according to the video) I still got the warning screen.
At 4 minutes he says that it grounded in the car..and they are tying in an additional ground. I'd maybe try another relay, maybe the one you have isn't working properly. I'm not an electronic guru, and don't understand everything that is going on. This is meant to HELP and I hope you receive it as that---DirtySCREW

I already tried another relay and it did the same thing. The ones I have are brand new. They both clicked just like they were supposed to and both showed power when the amp/ antenna wire came on. The terminals also showed no continuity when there was no power and as soon as the power hit it, the terminals showed continuity. All a relay does is pull a contactor closed when power is applied. Think of it as an electromagnet.
I didn't really pay attention to the screen when it first happened.... I didn't read what it said. After it happened, I read the screen. It says the parking brake needs to be set, released, and then set again. This tells me that it needs a pulse type circuit for it to work.
I am really curious how yours worked. You do have a totally different plug than I have.
Maybe it has something to do with the Nav unit that I installed.... that is the only thing that makes any kind of sense.
The only good thing I have going is that it is EXTREMELY easy for me to gain access to the stereo wiring without having to remove the head unit. When I remove the face of my dash, my HVAC comes out with it! I have a huge cavity behind the HVAC unit and can see ALL the stereo connections.
OBTW... Your install came out PERFECT! You said something about the gap at the bottom..... you had a gap with the old head unit also. Nice job on the 1.5 to double din!
Thanks man. Yea, the NAV has got to be doing something since its not working like mine. I like the fact that I can ADD Nav later if I want. Now the Mrs. car WILL have NAV whenever I get around to getting her a new deck. But I'm looking at the Kenwood Excelon 7" unit for nav. They use Garmin and I like garmin's setup. Plus, I've heard that Pioneer's Nav sucks...maybe you could give some insight?
Yea, I wish I had a new body style truck. Ya'll have easy easy easy access to you radio. I drove a 2010 when my truck was in the shop. It drove GREAT! maybe one day I can get me a new one. My only other advice is to maybe look over at AVIC411.com and see if those guys could help---DirtySCREW
