Factory Head Unit-Channels?

I have the 2010 non NAV non Sony head unit. My question is:
The way the speakers are connected to the head unit stock, are they like 4 channels with each speaker being a channel or are they like FRONTS are one channel and REARS are another channel equaling 2 Channels?

A channel usually constitutes "one postive and one negative" the stock unit has 4 pairs of speaker wires, which means that there are 4 channels. If there were tweeters which were spliced off the front speakers, it would still be considered 4 channel since there are only 4 pairs coming off the stock head unit

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought but wanted to make sure. I was thinking about adding an amp and wanted to make sure that the fronts or rears weren't already "bridged" into one channel.
