how do you add an auxillary port?

My 05' XLT has an auxillary button on the stock radio, but no auxillary port. Does anyone know how to add one, or is it just easier to put in a new deck.

I don't have any controlls on my steering wheel so there are no worries there about losing that function.

What would be a good reasonable choice for a new deck? I can put up with using the dumb radio transmitter for my ipod if its going to cost me more than $200 for a new deck or to add the auxillary port.

this is pretty simple to do and will cost you around $100

first you have to buy an adapter. there are many to choose from but if you want to run an ipod specifically, than you should go with the USA SPEC PA11 IPOD coverter. its around 100 bucks but is alot better than spending 300 plus dollars for a good in dash. all you do is take your stock radio out, plug in the chord from the converter to the back, an pulg the other chord to the ipod.

google images and type in USA SPEC PA11 IPOD it and youll see how it works

If you want a new HU, a tad more than $200 will get you a pretty good Pioneer that will charge your Ipod and allow you to control it from the HU. DO you want to go with the stock look or do you wnat to upgrade to a little more versatility? The Pionee DEH P5100UB is 209.99 a Crutchfiled---you may be able to find it cheaper.
With the DEH 5100, you have a USB port right up front.

If you have an Ipod, the last thing you want is an FM transmitter, as it defeats the purpose of getting the digital clarity thrugh the HU.

you could get a basic deck for the same price as that that accomplishes the same thing, plus more.

The 5100 is great because of the front/rear usb and the multi-line display. The 3100 is a single line display with just a single, front usb, and an aux input. The USB's will charge the ipod and allow control through the headunit. I like the rear because it keeps ugly wires of your dash.

http://brandmotion.com/ipod.php

With this you can keep the factory head unit (in case you don't want the hoodrats seeing your expensive aftermarket unit), use the AUX button, charge your ipod, play your ipod, and scroll through playlists and/or songs, and the titles scroll through on your stereo!

mustangjonny84, I checked the list of vehicle/year/headunits for the brandmotion adaptor, unfortunately my 2005 f150 single disc headunit doesn't fit the criteria required for the use of that product...but thanks for the idea

99% of aftermarket headunits are detachable face.

99% of thefts are due to idiots being stupid enough to leave their faceplate on the radio and thinking that they wont be the next statistic.

Sundeveil has a strong point. While I am a Pioneer guy since 1977, there are all kids of decent models that have removable face plates that will allow you to have more control over your sound as well as your Ipod. You do lose the stock look, but you gain a great deal of versatility. I also feel the sound quality is better.

I like the look of the DEH-P5100UB, I had a pioneer deck in my crappy lil 2WD Manual transmission 2.4l 4 cyl. GMC Sonoma, and when it got traded in I never had a chance to remove it...pioneer decks are great! Now to try and find one as cheap as possible.

My son has the DEH-5100; I have an older DEH-4900. I like them both; I have dealt with Crutchfield in the past, as they throw in the hardware for "free." I think now the price is 209, but at other places, the mounting brackets and the harnesses are not included. If you check around, you should be able to get a good deal. Others on this forum could offer you advice as to where to purchase it. It does not take long at all to mount the radio---even I could do it.

We dont give free parts, but we have the same price as crutchfield on the deck. Not sure if they charge shipping. We do price match crutchfield usually, just depends on if you get a manager in a good mood or not.
