CD players crapped out---suggestions

My 03 SCREW Lariat has a CD/tape double DIN unit. Today I was listening to a CD and all of a sudden the sound stop coming from my speakers, but the unit kept the time going like it was still playing. The radio works but not the CD. I even tried a different CD but that didn't matter.

What suggestions do ya'll have? I'd like to have a double din Nav unit but I don't have $800+ dollars to spend. What are a lot of you happy with? I'd really like a double din unit though so I won't have a cubby hold beneath the CD player---DirtySCREW

I had the single CD/tape double din unit in my 06 Lariat and sold it. I installed a Kenwood HU (5120 I think but not certain) from Crutchfield. Likely a discontinued unit now but the HU was only about $500. Of course I added a Sirius module and iPod module and steering controls module - stopped short of the bluetooth module, and with add ons was around $700.

The CD/tape combo is kinda hard to find but if you don't need the tape a less expensive option would be to just upgrade to the OEM 6CD HU. I think some are even MP3 equipped? You can find them used both here and on ebay pretty easily.

First, a stock HU from any 04 non heritage and up truck will not fit at all in an 03. They are larger and have different plugs.

Secondly, a double din does not fit directly into the opening of an 01-03 dash. There is some modification required, but it can be done.
