Which Alpine???

2005 lariat with audiophile

ok so i ve been looking into new headunits. i mostly want it for my ipod. i could care less about Cds or the radio.

i wish i could afford a nice double din in-dash Nav unit. but a man of my caliber would have to work quite a few more hours

so i choosen these to Alpines :

the iDA-X100
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=iDA-X100
and
the iDA-X001
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=iDA-X001

they both look pretty saucy, but i cant tell the real differences between besides the price. i really have no clue wen it comes to this kind of stuff. but i do no i am ready to throw my FM Transmitior out the window.

any input or experence with either would be very helpful thanks

in my experiences with alpine units may look almost identical but dont work nearly the same (w200 compared to w205) i suggest going to some where that has both on display and try them out see which has the features you like better, and make sure it will work with the most current ipods(and which ever gen ipood you have)

but all in all if your main concern is your ipod either of these is the hu to get

i looked over both of those in the last couple of weeks because i am getting rid of my in dash touch screen and going back to a standard cd player...for the money the best alpine head unit right now is the CDA-9886...tons of options and you dont lose the CD function which you WILL end up using at some point or another...i tried playing around with both the units you mentioned and I didnt like the controls at all...and they looked really funny in the dash...the giant **** in the middle with the square tiny screen on the side just strikes me as odd...go check out a 9886 and you wont be dissappointed..very much the classic alpine look and feel...as soon as I get rid of my clarion dvd touchscreen that alpine will find a home in my dash...they are hard to get though...ive been told by three shops they are national backorder

Thanks for the replies fellas,

i ll go check out the cda 9886,

now that u mention it , it would seem odd with a small screen and giant **** in the middle of dash lol.

i m also still thinkin of just upgrading to the factory 6 disc and get an ipod hookup, b/c m not to fond of these new fangled recievers' looks , they look kinda ricer , and throws off the look of the interior imho

also a very true statement...most people would just rather take the easy way out and spend less money to get more features vs keeping the clean, functional looking factory interior

it would cost about the same amount either way, new Factory H/u are goin for about $150 and up on ebay and then add the ipod hookup another $150, ur already at $300+

Then it would just depend on the aftermarket H/u which most are going from $200-$300+ all the acessories and goodies.

I think i am leaning towards aftermarket just b/c if i got a new factory H/U id feel like i be wasting $150 , because i already have the factory 6 disc , but mine doesnt have the ability to hook up the ipod interface. so i d be paying $150 for it to say MP3 on the faceplate

yeah i read about people having problems with powering up portable harddrives..he shouldnt be having any problems with ipods or flash drives though... those portable harddrives normally require a full usb 2.0 connection to power up correctly.. you could run an inverter in the truck, hardwired in to the ignition so it comes on with the truck and goes off with the truck...then just run a normal ext hard drive with a power supply...get a small inverter and bury it in the dash or under a seat..i know several people that have done this to get around the issues with the 9886 not powering it up...I dont know why you wouldnt just jump on one of the larger flash drives that are available now...up to 4 gigs now...even at 320kbps which is equal to or better than CD quality you can fit 400 songs average on that 4 gig jump..but if your like most folks who have mostly 128kbps mp3s then you can fit around 1000... if you honestly think you need more than 1000 songs in your truck with you then keep a couple of jumpdrives in your glovebox and run the cable in there so that you can swap out drives if your looking for something different

ok once again thanks for everyones input,

south_ms_sprcru appericate all the time u put in

i went to best buy today and check em out and played with em. i really dont like the way new recievers look, they look cheap and throw off the interior imho.
so i pulled a 180 and bought the pioneer D3, it was only $699
i felt like i could pass that up.
the Apline's were nice but i didnt like the look of em
going on friday to get her put in
