Question About Factory Head Unit

I have the factory 1 cd fm/am with casset head unit. It has the aux button but does that mean that it has the ability to run an ipod adapter to plug straight into the stereo itself?

I looked at the adapter i saw in another post and it was showing it was not compatible for the 2005 but i wasn't sure if there was one or if it even has that ability. I assume it does because of the AUX button on the front but i'm not sure?

There is no aux-in connector on the 05 radios. However you can use an adapter, I use this adapter myself and it works great. Here is an ebay link, you may want to look around as I just posted this one as reference and the price might be cheaper somewhere else.

The only thing with these is if you have factory dvd or satellite this will not work as these adapters plug into the ports for those. Hope this helps.

There is an adapter from P.I.E. that hooks between the harness and the back of the HU and it has two RCA jacks for input from any aux device, only drawback is you still have to have accesss to the ipod for control. P.I.E. also makes an ipod specific one, similar to the other one. The "ipod" one allows the radio buttons to control the ipod and track info is displayed on the screen.

The one in tmd07's post is what I was talking about.

Ok and the one you posted tmd will work with mine. It says it plugs into the cd changer port on the ebay site but my truck does not have the cd changer?

BTW - not that I would necessarily SUGGEST this method, but you can also get the "TripTunes" kit that Ford manufactures... I found it on another site... basically it comes with a mount that you drop wherever you want (they put it in the glovebox), wire it into your stock HU harness, and go. I think it's also a little cheaper than some of the other units I've seen.

Here's the link:

And then there's this...

But again, it's all if you want to do the Modulator thing... the aux option would be nice, but I plan on changing out the HU in the near future regardless, and figure I can use this with the new unit as well.

Ok - shutting my trap now. Have fun!

Not for the options I posted - the Ford one gets spliced inline with your factory harness, the 2nd one transmits the signal from your MP3 player along an FM signal (in the 87 range) that you preset your radio to... it connects inline with your antenna behind the stereo to reduce interference.

Both of them will require some effort to install - but I'd think worth the hassle.

Yeah, the only thing about those 2 is they do not keep a charge on the ipod. That was one thing that i was wanting so that i would never have to worry about it going dead on long road trips.
