Repair---or time to buy a new one?

My son has a Pioneer 3900--several years old--in his Taurus which he uses at college. The CD player has started to randomly skip---he has tried cleaning the lens etc, but it does no good---Would it be cheaper to buy a new one or send this one in for repairs?---what would you guys do?

Trash it, get a new one. You can get a new one with at least MP3, aux. input, ect. for $100 or less. It probably costs $20 to get it checked out, plus parts, if it can be fixed and then who knows if it will last or not. But then again, let him tought it out, it's college! What's more important, a CD player or party money, ah, I mean, studying hard and stuff........
