all you guys are soo naive. You really thing some type of little alarm will deter a thief? I don't care what type fancy paging alarm that you have, a brick will always win an a fight against your drivers window. Plus, Im sure that some of the people in the audio forum drive around with their sounds always blasting and attracting the atttention of a common hood thief. Think a little.

Lighten up dude! I myself never said an alarm would stop anyone. All it is, is a deterant. I would love nothing more than being alerted with my system and having the opportunity to catch someone in the act of stealing my stuff. It is true, if someone wants to steal or break into your truck, they will do so. Maybe though, they may look onto the next car if you take measures to protect it.

All you gotta do is when it tells you to wired it up to your outside speaker run it to your box... through the amps. you have to run a jumper wire from your amp to the hot wire on the alarm.so when the alarm is turned on the amp is also but the amp will not draw power until the alarm is set off and when its set off you will know it. trust me

I agree it may not deter him, but a brick to the side of the thief's head may persuad him to stop. If I had an alarm system that paged me at time of break-in, I would have been there in seconds and he'd have wished he chose another vehicle

Instead I have a blinking light that did nothing at all.

Anyway, thanks for all the other posts guys. I'm still in a bad situation with the drivers side door lock, it looks like they got in that way and it does not work now. Is this something I can fix or should I take it to the dealership. I was not going to use my insurance since the only thing missing was my haed unit but if it cost a lot to fix my lock then I will be forced to file a claim. Anyone know how much to fix or replace the key/lock cylinder?

I got certified for a reason.

The light is a status indicator. Dependant on the amount of blinks w/in a certain period of time can tell you a lot about whats been or going on with your truck. Plus its also a theft deterrent.

Yeah I would never attempt to install an alarm system myself, I just want to get some info on which unit to get and how to fix my door lock. I will def get an alarm that pages me at time of break-in so I can be "on scene" ASAP, I can't stand a thief and would be more than happy to show him how much.

You might want to look into this. I'm thinking about getting it for my truck in addition to my Viper alarm system.

dealership quoted me $250 ballpark to fix my lock so I guess I'll get it fixed without using my insurance. I am still debating on the alarm to use though. I like the vipers, I just can't decided which.

ALL anti-theft devices are deterrants. Nothing will keep anything in your driveway. An alarm beyond the 'PATS' red blinking light is good IMHO.

An alarm can give notification to you and it will be a few secs (depending on his expertise) to disable the alarm and get what he wants or have him just run after a ****** and grab. It can also assist in deterrance of a vehicle theif. A theif can pull the siren after gaining entry quickly. Remember battery BU sirens. They are cheap and can be hidden under a dash if you want to make things difficult for thieves. Just hope that your not inside if you have a problem with it.

A jimmijammer may keep someone from entering with prying the door handle and door skin to pull up on the unlock rod to open the door. Beyond that it will be a broken window to get inside. It assures a messed up door AND broken window.

A club slows down a vehicle thief, NOT an audio theif.

Etc....

Interesting idea...except that the siren has all the components for the actual audio..u could take apart a siren and tap into the speaker and run it out to a high level input on an amp, then send the siren's red wire to the remote to turn on the amp, u'd have to diode isolate that red wire if it was to be the remote turn on so it doesn't get power when you turn on your radio. unless you meant to have music playing, in that case you'd have to LEAVE your faceplate on ure aftermarket radio (an invitation as big as a open legged sleaze) and power up the radio when the alarm is activated

but IMHO a waste I'd just wire more sirens in, 2 on the outside, and 1 on the inside as well, but with relays to power them up seperately, wiring sirens up together loses their output performance after adding more than 2.

I guess I think differently than most. I have insurance that will compenstate me (I didn't say pay it all back) for theft, radio, vehicle, whatever. I won't say I don't care if my truck is broken into, but when it comes to something material vs. my family... take my truck, PUHLEEZE!!!! I'll file my police report, make my claim and wait for you to be caught. I'm not saying I'm not prepared, but better my truck than my wife and kids.

It's never easy to loose something to theft... but when you compare it to bodily injury, or worse, to a family member...*SHUDDER* I don't even want to think about it.

I think the same way-i pay enough money out for insurance for this reason-id be super ticked if someone took my truck, but its insured so id eventually get over it
although i am considering an alarm systems-still debating

I think a cool alarm would set off a cruise ship horn like a guy had on youtube. That person will not ever hear again
