No dash lights

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-490IB indash in my truck and for some reason at night I don't have any dash lights. All other lights in the truck work fine but no dash light. The radio harness had two orange wires which were for illumination but I dont know if that affected the dash lights, I tied together and fused it to the OEM ford harness. Is this correct or not. Maybe somebody and help me out.

Thanks.

Help Me Please

I submitted a post the other day about my new radio I installed "myself". I keep blowing fuses in the illumination of my dash board. What could be doing this. my OEM harness had one orange wire "ILL" and the radio harness had two. So I tied all three together. Also my radio had 2 black wires and the OEM harness had 1 so I also tied them together.. Was this a wrong way to install should either the orange or black wires only have one connection instead of two. Please help me out.

Thanks. The radio is a DEH 490IB Premier.

I think you have found your own problem... You hooked both positive and negative dimmer together, therefore popping fuses. The negative dimmer is somewhat of a false ground. And the positive dimmer wont work as an illumination. You need to take a wire from the light switch, catch illum, and wire into the illum circuit on the radio.

Np. Just find the parking light wire color for your year vehicle and tie the orange illum wire from the headunit to the pk light wire and you then will have it dim w. headlights.

Dude what?

Hook up the orange (illumination positive) wire from the truck harness to the orange (illumination positive) wire on the radio harness. Leave the illumination negative (orange white stripe) hanging.

Uhh. On the old F150 harness there is a orange/white and orange/black. Neither of them is the correct wire. One is a positive dimmer and the other is a negative dimmer. Both will range in voltage as the dimmer is in different positions. Aftermarket radios are not equipped to deal with the change in voltage due to the differences in OEM wiring. If you tap into the pk light wire you will pick up a 12v+ whenever the lights are on. That is what is needed.

Illumination = 0 or 12v
Dimmer = Between 0 and 12v depending on position.

Hanging...? You mean cut and cap right?

So you have 3 different wires coming out of the after market harness,

Illumination
Dimmer +
Dimmer -

i dont get what you guys are talking about, what do you tie each one of these wires into?

also on this after market harness i have, it has a brown wire coming out of it and its purpose is Phone Mute. is their anything to tie that wire into or just cap it?

No.. Coming out of my aftermarket harness, there are two illumination wires. Orange (illumination positive) and orange/black stripe (illumination negative).

The Z2 probably won't have an illumination wire. Or at least none of the DVD units I've installed do. Just don't attach those wires to anything, cap em and leave em.

Are you serious Zaair? I do this for a living and own a old body style, new body style and a Z2.
cap and leave them, and no illum wires?!?!?.: And to top it off Zaair, you are fussing about the old harness, he has the new one.

Look bro, on the 04+ ford harness you will have, there will be the orange wires. Do not hook the Z2 up to those. You will need to run a wire from the Pk lights to the illum wire on the Z2 (orange/white i believe). This is a on/off wire. No inbetween like on the factory HU which will dim with lights dependant on the dimmer control. Notice its called a dimmer wire not an illumination wire.

As for the phone mute cut and cap on the ford harness. On the Z2 harness you will have to repin the phone mute wire in order to bypass the unit.

Your VSS wire will be Gray/Blk at pin 14.

If you have any other questions let me know.
