I have a new 2006 XLT SCrew 4X4. The in dash 6 disc HU has never worked correctly. I've had the dealer change it out and the new unit does, not exactly but basically, the same thing. Some CD's load and play, other's start to load then eject with a reading of "bad disc." Other's load, start to play then skip all over the place. Songs start, re-start, stop and skip to another song. Other times when you turn the key on the changer simply begin to shuffle through the loaded discs. I'm certain if I forced the issue I could get the dealer to change it out again, but at this point I'm just fed up wasting my time and engery on what is obviously a POS.

So, for any one with an opinion I'm all ears. Here's my questions:

Any suggestions on a new HU? Such as brand?

A changer? Anyone got a great idea where to install? I'm operating from an understanding that an after market HU will not have an in dash changer. If that's not true, please let me know.

If I change out the HU and install a changer will I need (want) to re-wire with heavier gauge wire, such as speaker wire?

What's the going opinion of changing out the deck and leaving in the OEM speakers? I'm I going to want to change them too?

Open to all suggestions.
