2007 OEM Tray with auxiliary audio input jack???
A little more info...
I'm very interested in this mod, too. I have a 2006 with the in-dash 6 disc/MP3 player with Sirius. I bought the TripTunes, but haven't installed it because after I got it home, I realized it wasn't anything other than a fancy FM modulator and we all know those aren't usually very good. I'm returning it.
I happen to have a friend with a King Ranch (don't know what year, but at least 2005 or later) who has the factory line-in in the tray (as shown at the beginning of this thread). When he pressed the AUX button in his truck, I believe it toggled from Aux1, to Aux 2, to Line In. On my unit, there is Aux1, Aux2, and Aux3. The "Aux"es are for Sirius, of course.
I think someone else asked the question.... is the radio a different unit or does it know when you've got the Line-in harnessed that it turns Aux3 into Line-in? I'm tempted to ask my friend to let me disassemble his HU and look at parts and harnesses, but I don't feel comfortable.

Hey I have the same setup - 2006 with the factory 6 CD in dash HU and factory Sirius radio - my AUX button toggles through SAT1, SAT2, and SAT3. I'd like to know if this is doable too. I know I've seen trucks with the 6 CD changer and Sat radio (2007 models) with that line in on the top. So what's the difference from that on the 2006 models without the line in? Just the wiring harness?
A friend of mine got this to work for me this weekend. I had found a thread that read
"....if you order a trAy from the Ford F-150 it comes with the input jack and the part is only List $40.17 FCC $29.91. Part # 7L3Z-15042A82-AA. You would also need part # 3U2Z-14C411-FAA List $20.70 FCC $15.41 ; to plug into that terminal."
The last part he mentioned is a pigtail that plugs into the backside of the input plug that shows at the top of the tray. This pigtail has four wires coming out of it. There are two ground, a left, and a right. We then looked up a schematic on a standard mini plug. We plugged a male to male mini plug into the top of the tray and then tested the three different parts on the other side of the plug till we had the left, right, and ground figured out on the pigtail. We then wired those to the left and right RCA connector and plugged that into a PIE. Now it looks and works as stock
.
I'm not very technical and could not have done this without help, so don't ask. If you have all the parts, someone with some electrical sense should be able to make something out of this post. BTW the parts in the post came from teamfordparts.com. They were helpful and reasonably priced. They even had the PIE. I found that the level on the PIE was about right set at 3/4. Hope this helps. Good luck

Did anyone figure out the wiring harness issue for the OEM tray in an 04-06 truck?
I have a 2006 FX4. I now have the OEM tray with the aux input jack. I saw on a friend's 2008 that there is an additional wiring harness coming off the main harness with the plug that plugs into the bottom of the OEM tray plug. I'm guessing it just goes into the main harness and those wires somehow end up in the connector on the back of the HU.
I have a non-audiophile HU - 6 disc changer with the factory Sirius (which I do not ever plan on using).
I just want to figure out how to connect the line in tray to the HU so I can use it as a line in.
Has anyone figured out how to do this without buying a PIE? Surely there is some way to either make or buy a separate connector that plugs directly into the bottom of the tray's plug and then to the back of the radio (unplugging the Sirius radio from the radio is fine since I'll never use it anyway).

Ok monkey wrench in all of this. I want to put in the tray. I looked into this once before with my stock radio but now my truck has an 06 shaker 500 head unit from a friends mustang. Does the PIE adapter for the AUX port work for this unit??
