new head unit?

is there a head unit out there that i can buy that will still allow my stock dvd player and flip down screen to work as well as my steering wheel controls? i really want to upgrade my deck and add an amp and subs without losing the dvd or steering wheel controls.

Search for the PIE adapters. There are several variations and I know there's one that will do what you want. Cause I found it like 2 days ago on the exact same question.

A close relative of mine has a 03 Navigator with a pioneer unit that has a extra wire purchase allowing him to keep the steering wheel controls. I love those babies you cant even see the volume graphics anymore as they are worn right off from all the use lol

not sure bout the stock dvd system but try for a sony. i have always had the best luck with them and most come with a sub out option, letting you completly turn off the subs when needed (grandma or chicks in the truck hah)

If you pull your factory headunit you WILL loose function of the factory overhead monitor. I learned this problem a few years ago the hard way. Had three matching Limited Excursions that I installed about $12,000 worth of audio/video/navigation equipment into each one. I never thought to even mess with the factory overhead players until the day before the company was to take delivery. I installed Alpine DVD/Navigation units in the dash with headrests in the front and rear seats (4 total). One of my installers was sitting in the back seat messing with things and folded down the overhead. I remember him like it was yesterday. "Houston...we have a problem" The overhead doesn't work.

It actually worked out for the best. The company gave me a few more days and we pulled the headliners in all three trucks and patched the holes that the factory overhead made. We then recovered the headliners with suede and installed a 15" monitors back into the trucks.

If you are interrested in upgrading your system I would suggest using a PAC Trunk-Loc RCA inverter to add an amplfier to the system. There is a post on these forums where guys are discussing the factory Navigation monitor install into your truck. You can also contact my buddy Kelvin at Broadway Radio Shop (816-753-1960). They are an authorized Ford radio service center and can help you out.
