running wire into the cab
running wire into the cab
I have a 2004 supercrew and just purchased a avic-z1 with the rear mount camera. The wire is long enough to reach midway of the cab and there is not an extension wire that i'm aware of.
My question is "what wiould be the best way to run the wires into the rear of the cab?" I was thinking of removing the rear seat but dont know how.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I usually run the wires along the side of the cab under the floor kick panels. Just open the doors and you can pull up the plastic kick panels on the floor. Ford runs most of their wire bundles through the channels under the kick panels. The driver's side is normally quite full of wire harnesses, but the passenger side has quite a bit of room. You can run the wires from the new stereo head unit behind the dash and under the trim to the kick panel. Run the wires through the kick panel channel and then run them up the side of the cab under the trim and head liner. Panels & trim are held in place with spring clips and they just pop off. Keep an eye out as some trim is held in place with bolts hidden under small "pop-out" false panels.
I've installed a Pioneer camera recently. The cable going from the camera looked like a telephone cord with a Pioneer proprietary connector on one end. The accessary kit with the camera had a power supply module that could be connected to this cable. The 14 foot long camera cable could not reach the dash, so I was forced to use the power supply module/adapter. I stashed this adapter under a kick panel and ran the two power lines and RCA video cable up to the head unit.
