that depends on your definition of sound quality. sq is subjective. At any rate in my case I would still buy the one I already have. Alpine 9833

My top 2 would be an alpine F1 or an eclipse cd8053.

Alpine F1 Status: 9990, M990, H990 and C990...that would complete my HU set-up.

Although, for the heck of it, I would like to run the Japanese Panasonic Tube HU (PANASONIC CQ-TX5500D). I know of a couple people running them and love them. I just don't like not getting all of my FM channels.

They aren't that expensive and if I wasn't running DVD, I would probably have one.

You can see one here:

HU with GPS and Hard Drive

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...602044,00.html

Pioneer Avic Z1. 20 gigabyte to hold all the GPS info, so no CD's to flop out, leaving 10 gig for a jukebox of your favorites.

On order for about $1700. Haven't installed it yet.

That tube unit though looks pretty cool....I'm familiar with tube amps, but that's the first tube HU I've seen.
