Need HU Advice

New to the forum. Just got a new '05 Supercrew Lariat 4x4 with the factory 6CD/MP3 (not Audiophile). I'm wanting to upgrade the HU to something that looks sharp, possible blue digital display, CD/MP3, as well as Sirius-ready. Not interested in DVD yet. But, I DO want to upgrade speakers and subwoofer. Price not an problem, within reason. (I don't want to go over $1000 or so). Anyway, I don't have any experience in doing this on my own, and didn't know where to start, as far as Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc. Anyone have any recommendations that fits my criteria? I just want something that sounds really good, loud, lots of base, and that I don't have to crank up the volume all the way just to hear it well. Thanks in advance...

Not TOTALY true,-for your (your budget, what you wanted from a sub, and the subs you listed) it was the best choice. Im not saying Kicker is bad, as their subs are pretty nice, but I just thought I would clarify that.
But in general-Kickers usually do produce some crazy bass-although they arent the best sounding while doing it(to people who like good SQ anyway) but a lot of casual, average listeners arent going to notice it much.

Anyway, like I said, just thought I would clarify that.

For the original poster-I know most all Pioneers and some Alpines have blue displays. For the blue display Pioneers youll prbably want to look at the DEH7700 and up models, and for Alpine-most all their high end models have blue displays(not sure which models exactley, Im not real familar with a lot of the newest alpine models)

IF your wanting the best sound, your PROBABLY going to want to go wtih component speakers with an amp on them
But the whole speakers/subs/amp questions are pretty much for a different post. What your going to want to focus on at the moment is a good HU.

Just bought my F150 Scab 10 days ago. Today I went to Best Buy and picked up the Pioneer DEH-7700 and 2 sets of Pioneer A6870 6x8 speakers. Got the mounting kit and wiring harness all out the door for just over $400. (I had $500 of BB gift cards which is why I bought it all there, probably could have saved money online. I was going to have them install everything but it was going to be a 2 day wait and I didn't want to.)

Took me about 2.5 hours to get it all installed. I don't have a sub or external amps and I'm very happy with the sound quality. I don't think the door speakers need amped but I will someday put one in along with a custom sub box to really get the bass pumping. For now though, I'm very happy. Looks great and sounds so much better than stock.

That looks pretty sick Balok. I'm actually looking at that same HU as well. What do you think of the 9853 so far? Also, which mounting kit is that you are using? I like how it's completely flush with the dash.

hey thanks man- so far its great, took a couple days to get used to with the slide bar and all, but now ive got the hang of it, and can control it at will. sounds great, has lots of functions to adjust sound etc... it has 3 different display angles that you can chose, but due to the high mounting position of the deck already in the 150's, the tilt really serves no function cause you cant see it. as for the mounting kit, im not sure which it is- it works nicely, and the accessory bucket below slants toward the rear, so if you go up an incline, the stuff doesnt slide out at all.
