I just bought a new 2005 FX4 SC yesterday. The options on the sticker show:

AUDIOPHILE 250
6-DISC CD CHGR W/MP3 CAPABILIT 300

I tried to load an MP3 disc and the display flashed "CD ROM" and spit it out. Here's a photo of my HU:



Did they install the correct head unit? Or did I not get the "Premium" package?

the only difference between my audiophile headunit and yours is mine says MP3 right on it in white lettering..

If you push the Menu button can you get to options such as driverseat,backseat, things like that? I think though settings are only on the audiophile headunit.

 

upon my limited knowledge of the OEM headunits...it appears you DON'T have the headunit as advertised...

time to complain...

 

actully i remember reading somewhere that ford offers 2 audiophile setups, one that is mp3 compatible and one that isnt. Im not sure if this is true though,.

 

Very interesting post darin, I am in the same boat. Bought 05 Lariat screw in Jan 05 and my sticker says the same thing as yours. My head unit looks just like yours also, doesnt say mp-3 or even cd-6 like most of them. Hope someone has some info...would hate to get ripped!

 

Looks like you were both hosed. That is definately not the mp3 compatible HU you should have gotten. My new 05 Scab has the mp3 6 disc model and although it looks similar there are key differences. On mine MP3 is labeled in big white letters above the cd load slot, and on the bottom buttons (1-6) you find the additional labels indicating <folder, folder>, and a few others used for navigating a data disc that yours clearly doesn't have. I'll try and post a pic in a few of mine, but you get the gist. I'd contact your dealer asap and get this corrected. As long as they have one in stock it only takes 15 minutes to swap them out since the harness is wired the same.

 

I took it into the dealer and they took the unit out of a truck still on the trailer and put it in mine so I wouldn't have to wait for the part! Thanks Premiere Ford in Columbus, Mississippi!
