Scrolling text

Hey guys, I have an 04 F-150 and saw that a few people were talking about scrolling text on their radios. You know when it displays the Artist and song title on the screen. Anyway, I have the 6-Disk in dash and thought I saw someone say that those units do that, but I am unable to figure it out. Yes I did read the manual, but it gave me no help unless I overlooked it. Can anyone give me any help? Thanks.

Randall

CD Text is not supported on the '04 models.

While we're on the topic - which factory HUs (if any) support the ID from the radio station - in other words, display the song title/artist when listening to FM?

I don't know about what factory headunits have it, but the term you want to look for when looking at aftermarket headunits is RDS (Radio Data System).

My wife wanted the feature for her new HU that I put in her Explorer.
I wasn't able to find a US model Alpine that had it, so went with a Kenwood KDC-MP828 instead (cheapest unit from Kenwood that had it). I'm almost jealous of the 3-line display and Spectrum Analyzer that my Alpine CDA-9847 doesn't have, but being able to control my iPod from the HU makes up for it.

I like it quite a bit. I only have stock speakers but it sounds much better than w/ the factory HU (Surprise, surprise). I don't have a satellite radio tuner, so can't say anything about that. CD and Radio work as you'd expect. I wish the unit had RDS, but that's just a nicety .. I don't listen to the radio all that much anyways - just for traffic and the occasional talk show. I haven't used any MP3 discs yet but probably will soon (for when the wife "borrows" the iPod )

I like the simple display and interface, it's one of the primary reasons I chose it. Animated dolphins are just not my thing ... I do wish it had more than one line of display, or if it rotated between the available title options (artist, album, song title). I had considered with going with one of the Alpines with the better displays but had read about problems with the 2005 models and the motorized faceplate ... decided I didn't really need any of that and went with the 9847 instead.

Here is a pic of it installed in my Camry (a little blurry)

The KCA-420i iPod adapter is nice too, even if it's not perfect (scrolling through songs/artists/etc takes forever since it's not a variable speed like on the iPod).
Before I had the iTrip FM transmitter and it was OK, but the sound quality is much better with the direct interface. Plus, it charges the battery and the cabling is neat (nothing hanging out of the cigarette lighter/power port).

Enjoy your new stereo!

Sweet

I just picked up the 9855 and I'm reading the manual now.. it's like the yellow pages but oooooooo the possibilities. Plus the display is just liquid sweetness. I'm with you though, I turned off the animations and such because I don't need dolphins or race cars, but being able to view the entire album, artist, and track name is seven layers of heaven.

What about scrolling the MP3 text? Like if the song name is long can the HU scroll the song name, instead of having to push the text button to see the rest of it? If this is possible how do you make the radio do it?

On the stock deck or on the 9855?

Ya know I'm selling it on ebay right now so I sort of lost interest in whether or not it could. Maybe someone else on here knows though.
