Are you able to install a sub and amp on factory head unit

Is it possible to install a amp onto a factory head unit of a 02 F150. it is am/fm cd player. it doesn't have premier sound. i have a 1000 watt sony xplode and 12" xplode sub. i would replace head unit, but it is so big and bulky and works great, so theres no need to replace it. i was going to attach amp to 12v ignition wire on radio if there isn't a amp remote wire. any help would be great. thanks!

Yup, your going to need a Line Output Converter (LOC) You can get them for like 15 bucks. Taps into the speaker wires then converts the signal to low level (RCA type plugs) so you can hook it to your amp. Im not sure if there is a remote type wire on the stock HU or not, I dont think there is though.

If you always have your radio and subs on, it wont matter if you just hook it right to a 12v ignition wire. And if there are time you dont want them on just wire a switch in on the remote wire.
