Time to Upgrade?
Time to Upgrade?
Here goes...
I currently have a completely upgraded system including:
************************************************** ********************************
Now I guess I can be content with this setup controlled by my current headunit. However, the 9100 only has a set of 2 preamps and I have 3 amps. So, I lose control of my fade for my front and back speakers. Also, the functions I can perform from the RFX9100 is somewhat prehistoric. I have very basic functionality. Bass, treble, fade, balance...no real "in-depth" control that I hear newer HU's today have.
Based on the conclusions drawn by my description and the huge knowledgebase we've got here @ f150online.com, is it time for a new headunit?
I currently have a completely upgraded system including:
- RFX9100 Headunit (payed around $320 four years ago)

- 5.25" FanaticX Components powered by a Rockford Fosgate 2.6x amplifier
- Rockford Fosgate FRC4368 6x8's in the back powered by another Rockford Fosgate 2.6x amp
- Rockford Fosgate 301S powering a 10" Kicker CompVR DVC sub in a custom sealed box

Well. Do you thinks its worth the time to change it out, the money to do it, and do YOU think it will be worth it.
Once you have your HU set up right, the only think you need to worry about is the volume ***. (which should be left cranked most of the time
)
Im not sure how much HU technology has advanced in the past 4 years, but new HU have a crap load of features. And if the technology in the last 4 years has advanced at the rate it has in the last year or so, I would say your missin quite a bit.
Personally, I would rip that RF HU out. The only think I like that RF makes are its amps
Hell, why not upgrade the whole system??

I would upgrade at least the headunit. They have so many more features now its not even funny...I just got my Pioneer DEH-P7700MP last night and from the few minutes I have had to toy around with it, you can control at least two subs individually, manually adjust sounds curves, the list goes on and on and on, my system is stock except for the HU so I cant even use most of that stuff.
There are alot better head units out there, and you dont have to pay $400 for something better than your current one. I only paid $269 for mine at crutchfield, you could pay much less on ebay for a new one (I wanted the wiring harness and such).

I was thinkin about changing out my 4600 for a 7700. Only 200 bucks on Ebay.
I pretty much replaced everything else though so I dont want to spend any more money. I did get to play with one at Wally World though, pretty friggin awsome.

I love it. Been driving around most of the morning. Its much more powerful than the stock HU, and more powerful than the Kenwood KDC-3022 I had.
I just ordered two pairs of Pioneer TS-A6870R's for $95 off ebay (freakin shipping) since the stock speakers just cant handle the power and they dont sound very good at moderate levels, much less when some bass hits. Cant wait for those to get here.
