Help...Poor radio reception

2003 screw king ranch with the 6 disc in dash head unit.

Heres the problem, I have terrible FM radio reception everywhere i go, i've taken the HU out and checked the antenna connection and I've pulled apart the antenna at the fender and checked that and everything looks great, but still crappy reception. I'll be driving along and the radio will fade in and out, quiet, then fuzzy, then good, then not...Its sooo irritating, and this is in a big city too. The CD player works great, but the radio sucks and I'm getting sick of my CD's. Any help??? I'm at a loss for what to do.

Oh and unrelated or not, the back lighting to the buttons on the radio weren't working the other night until i played with the dimmer switch...what gives?

2003.....isn't your ride still under warranty? If not, trash the radio, get one that is Serious satellite ready (or keep the one you've got for CD purposes and get an add on FM modulated sat radio). You'll love it and it's only 10 bucks a month after initial investment. AM and FM are for 8 track players.....

Warranty expired a few thousand km's ago...and I don't really want to ditch the factory HU.

Replace the antenna cable: about $12.00.

Seems water leaks into the mounting fixture on the fender and gets into the antenna core inside the cable jacket, causing rust.

I had TERRIBLE AM reception; new antenna cable fixed it.

Yup, the cable is a pain in the *****, all right. I didn't tell you or you never would have done it.

Sorry it didn't fix the problem. Fixed mine, but at least you can eliminate one possibility.
