Head Unit Serial #

Hey,

My stereo was stolen about a month ago, and whenever I talk to the police they say that it would be a great help if I supplied the serial number (I can understand that this would help) but it was my understanding that the serial number was only posted on the head unit itself... I have the box and the owners manual but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. It was a Sony CDX-M850MP...

Sometimes the manufacturer writes it down in the manual, like on the first page or something, or there is usually a space to write it down. If It doesnt have either, Id say your outta luck, cause its usually only on the HU itself.

Having the serial number doesn't help the police one bit if they don't do anything with it..........

I had an Alpine HU, XM Modulater via Ai-Net, MTX Sub and MTX amp that I had serial numbers on everything.......the cops did nothing with it. They just added it to the report and said thanks. I also called XM and told them that my modulator was stolen and to call the local police here if anyone tries to activate it. XM said they can't do that without a warrant, and then the cops said they can't get a warrant without probable cause.

HELLO?!?!?! Is this a) not probably cause that somebody activates stolen equipment, and b) catch 22.

But it does help in the off chance the cops get lucky and find the stuff. Just don't get your hopes up.
