.....on my own truck

got a package in the mail today from Mr. Bling (you know who you are, and thanks again!)

Anyway, I originally wanted them for when i got a bedrug, which i hope to do this spring, but i had a chance to get a set now, and i couldn't resist putting them in the truck early. LoL.

Now for pics...

Plain and boring stock tiedowns



(excuse the dirty bed and dull bedmat. Can't wash the truck when its freezing and snow outside. LoL)

 

and new bling bling chrome 03 HD tiedowns. I wonder where i could find some stainless steel T30 self tapping screws to replace the black ones, or maybe i could polish the stock bolts. just a little detail that bugs me. LoL




Its was hard to get a decent pic of these in the bed from the way they are angled and the way the sun was by the time i swapped them all out. i'll try again tomorrow, but it gives yous an idea




Only mods left for the bed is a bedrug, tinman billet tonneau strut covers, and maybe some lighting. the cargo lights do no good with the tonneau at night. LoL.

I think i can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel with mods. LoL. The tunnel may be a thousand miles long, but i can see the end and what i'm doing to get there. LoL!
will probaby be a few detours along the way though. LoL!

 

If it was a straight road, then where's the challenge? There has to be some detours to change the scenery

They look good Josh! So, let me get this straight, they did NOT come with chromed / stainless steel screws.

 

nope, they came with new screws, they were the same black though. i wonder if its the same way on the 03's from the factory?
not a big deal, but a little detail that i need to fix

and there have been a million detours already, i'm looking forward for many more to come

Those are nice! I want some! How much? Where? Ok now here's the "spoiler". If you use the factory "screws", with blue loctite, at factory specified torque, will the warranty still cover it (your bikes damage) if it breaks while hauling your bike? I'm not really sure how that is "covered" in the warranty anyway now that I think about it....hmmm Since all the crap thats been going on with a few peoples "warranty" claims lately, I wonder what/if anything is covered anymore. I just "assumed" (gulp) that since they were there, and it being an HD truck, that they are indeed strong enough and warrantied to carry ALL HD's in the bed without it doing any harm to any of the parts (tailgate) while loading/carrying it.

 

a motorcycle in the bed of my truck? never! would make too many scratches/dents and i'd have to pull the tonneau off too
I rarely ever use the tie downs though. Usually just once a year when i go on vacation to strap the loads down and thats about it
i got em for looks, not so much for function. Those suckers are in there TIGHT though! I had a tough time getting some of the old screws out. I only snugged them up when i put them back in cuz they will be coming back out for the bedrug so i dont' want to strip anything out cuz they are self tappers.

ford dealers have them for a decent price i believe. i guess they haven't realized its a HD part and they can increase the price 500% yet. LoL

Nice touch to your truck. I am sure they will look good one the bedrug is in.

 

Ford isn't going to warranty a motorcycle falling out of the bed of your truck. However, you might be able to sue them like the lady with hot coffee from McDonalds, or the girl sueing McDonalds because the food made her fat.

I'm not so sure about that. When a corp. like Ford put tiedowns in the bed of a F150 and named it the HD and unveiled it in 2000 at Sturgis Bike Week, (i was there) they said that it was functional....as did my salemans. If you were to tie your bike down in the back and take off for Sturgis and for some reason the tiedown (attached to truck) broke/popped loose and your bike fell out, Ford would be liable. They would no doubt be p*ssed, but they would be liable.

 

um, not sure if you were aware of this, cuz a few people on the other site weren't and dented their bed all up, but just cuz the HD trucks say HD on the side, doesn't mean the bed and tiedowns were specially made for hauling bikes in the bed. The tiedowns come on every f150, whether its a HD or not. A couple guys on the other site put a bike in the bed, and drove a long way and were suprised when the front of the bed caved into the back of the cab, and the tailgate sheet metal bent almost down far enough to touch the outter panel. If you haul a bike in the bed, you need to put a board across the front of the bed to spread the weight, and a board gong across the tailgate to spread the weight there also. Still not the greatest idea to haul a bike back there

Thanks for the pics, HD356. Doh!! I was reading the new posts from the bottom up so I saw the other thread about the tie downs and posted a response to post pics. Maybe you were just reading my mind!!
