Broken tonneau

So over the holiday weekend I washed and detailed the truck. I had taken my soft tonneau off about a month ago (the Harley one that came with the truck) for various reasons. I decided that I liked it better on than off, so I started putting it back on when one of the corner tabs snapped.

Now the frame is pretty light, and there really isn't that much stress put on these corners, but I figued I could get it on the truck to see if it would stay. Just as I get it into position, another corner snapped.

Now I'm pi$$ed. Has anyone else had trouble with this frames? I've debated taking it back to the dealer to have them replace the parts, but they probably only cost a few bucks. The dealer also forgot to charge me for the tonneau when I bought the truck.

So now I'm thinking about leaving it off entirely, since I'm getting a hard tonneau in the future. I want to do something with the soft tonneau but can't think of anything good.

Anyone have any ideas?

are you referring to the plastic end corners of the frame? if so this is pretty common from what i've heard. Phillyrube was having alot of trouble with his cover also just like that. maybe he'll stop in and give some advice. i think he was looking for a place to make the corners out of aluminum, but in the mean time, i'm pretty sure he just got replacement pieces

I have an idea!

I say you get rid of the cheap plastic cover and get a fiberglass tonneau cover such as an A.R.E. LSII (i have this one and life it a lot). You can do a search on the thread...there is an old post on hard tonneau covers...you should check it out.

Soft tonneau

Yeah, it was the crappy corners that broke. I was amazed at how easily the broke...very little stress.

I plan on getting a hard tonneau at some point. Still undecided on which, though. I like that ARE and the Fibernetics.

I was wondering what I should do with the soft tonneau for now. I'm not even sure I'm going to be putting it back on the truck.

The soft tonneau is nice 'cuz it has the Harley Davidson logo on it. I don't want it to just sit around and collect dust.

Any thoughts?

classifieds or maybe cut off the edging with the snaps and use it for a floor mat in your garage?

Cheap plastic

So I went to the dealer and asked for replacement parts. They told me they don't have them and that I would have to purchase a whole new tonneau!

One of the parts guys mentioned to me that his brother had this happen and he went to a place called Mother Truckers that sells lids and shells. I cruised over there and they don't have them at all. Not sure if I was getting the run around or what.

Does anyone know where I can get these parts?

was it in the HD forum? If not, do a search for "hood bonanza" under the Lightning forum. it should pop right up. there's tons of hoods in there.

if it was in the HD forum, i'll do a search a little later for ya and see what i can find.
