old school
Ok, I guess it's time to give away my age...(as if it is a secret) I've been thinking of try to get a set of "fishtails" made for my truck. Think i'll fab up a set of cardboard ones and see what they look like...I wonder???? think it would be possible to get that same awesome fishtail "whap!" sound out of them????
Back during the days of straight exhaust and drag pipes, there was a tip that many used called "fishtails". The sound they made were legendary. That sound is the sound many of us old "ironhead", "shovelhead" and "panhead" era guys remember. It makes a "whapping" kinda sound going down the road and is very loud. I'll see if i can find a picture of a scooter with "fishtails" on it....they really do sound great.
fepony-
Your age is given away by your handle.....I've had a number of FE's that last being a 428 in a Fairlane. I'm sure then you know what the FE stands for ........ *********g Expensive!!!!!!!!
By the way, do you have a big block Mustang now?

Oh well..... I sure thought that "fepony" was refering to the Ford "FE" big blocks that they manufactured in the 60's. The cubic inch displacement ran 332, 353, 360, 390, 391, 406, 410, 427 and 428. So being a Ford "gearhead", when is see "fe" I think Ford big block engines. So in my mind I see "big block Ford Mustang". Parts for the FE blocks are brutally expensive - I personally know from past experience. Never paid attention much in Chemistry class... must have had to do with a little cutie that I sat next to.
Trying to picture how you could even fit nicely a set of fish tails back there. Too bad all the HD fin sets are for like 1 3/4" exhaust. You might check J&P cycles. They have a lot of that, some might just fit over the stock tips. I'm thinking that supertrapp makes a fish tail tip that fits their muffler bodies, and they are probably about as big as our tips. Anyways, it's a place to start looking. Web site is j-pcycles.com
oh, now i know what you're talking about. i've seen lots of those red x's before
