You have got to be kidding us... right?

A friend of mine who owns a slammed Silverado complains that he got pulled over for having wide wheels sticking out of their fenders, just noticeable when driving but he has them tucked in when parked. But he argues that the lifted bad azz trucks with swampers do not get pulled over for not having any mud flaps. I see it very often, big rigs with a missing mud flap, they get pulled over, but the lifted pickups just whizz by.

On long stretches of interstate freeway between California and Oregon, I now bring my dad's CB. It save my *** numerous times when the truckers started calling out the smokies' hideouts.

HD356, sounds like that new cop is definitely making a name for himself with all his friends as well (a$$hole!!).

Most of the cops in our town are pretty cool. This is definitely a hot rod, Harley-Davidson friendly area though. You got most of the Good Guys around here and just about every other home has a Harley in the garage.

Wow, just noticed...6 more posts and I hit 500. I'll try to make them VAPs (Value-Added Posts)

Last 4 pullovers...

Over the last 4 or so years, I've been pulled over 4 times and given a warning each time.

I've found that most police officers' actions are directly related to my attitude presented toward them. Act cool, and extremely polite, (coming off genuine) and they most likely will let you go.

Some won't. But I've been lucky. I was caught in a speed trap (didn't even see it) blazing down a hill at 85 in a posted 45. Had the windows down, radio blaring. I pulled over right away, made sure it was safe for him to get out of his car and made sure to be real nice. He let me go free, telling me about all the accidents they have there and what not.

If you keep in mind that the worst that can happen is that you get a ticket, then you realize it's really not a big deal. (Unless of course you're driving like a madman). I remember seeing a 95 Impala with a license plate frame stating he got busted doing 145 on his way to Vegas. Anyone familiar with the 15 freeway here would understand how easy that is.

chester, thats no joke. i'm serious. that b**** must have been jealous or something, cuz she was going over the truck looking for anything and everything that could be ticketed.
she asked about the exhaust, "no, thats stock too", ya sure? "yes!"
i was there about an hour, while she called the base, then the base had to call Ace Ford where i bought the truck, they didn't have enough info or something, then they had to call Ford Motor Company themselves to verify that the truck came with the 20" rims. Talk about one huge PITA

But thats the only time i've been ticketed for anything, and it wasn't speeding, just headlight covers, so knock on wood. LoL

Has anyone used the Mini-D (Model: RMR-D312)
It is supposed to be the same affectiveness as the Passport 8500, but wanted to ask you guys.

Oh yea, just paid for a $390+driving school speeding ticket. Make sure you guys never speed through Lawrenceville, GA. This is my second $400 dolloar ticket through there. They are paying for a new city hall buidling. Judge Still always throughs the book at ya, no exceptions. Watched many people ahead of me walk away with the same fine. Should have invested that money in a Laser detector.

ticket was 73 in a 45 on Lawrenceville-Suwannee Rd for you locals.

New Cops!

Think about it...how does a cop impress his supervisor, and show he's doing a good job? First off, what does a beat cop do, or supposed to do.....answer calls for service, sneak and peak behind shopping centers, etc. What does a supervisor have to look at in order to evaluate the officer...some reports that have good grammer? So, the officer gets productive between calls and produces paper, in this case, summonses. Turns in 5-10 for an 8 hour shift, and the boss is happy. "Look how productive Officer X is, writing all those tickets." But is he?

Now, as a supervisor-selectee, my viewpoint is, if you're out there writing tickets, the criminals are wracking havoc through the neighborhoods. Besides, it doesn't take a genius to write a ticket. "Monkey see, monkey do." If an officer spends all shift writing tickets, then another officer has to cover the calls in his zone.

Look at it this way....the guy writing tickets isn't very good at being a cop, since this job is so much more........Rube

The Valentine 1 is a great radar detector...for a smaller and yet less expensive way you can go is the Passport 8500. It doesn't have the arrows but it's $100 cheaper and also easier to find a place to put. The Valentine is just HUGE.

Slingshot...where did you mount yours? Do you have the stealth gismo that plugs into the lighter?
Just wanted to add my $.02.

The V1 is an awesome radar detector and I'd gladly pay the additional $100 for the directional arrows. After having a V1 for a little over 3 years I can't see how other radar detector owners can function without it. Driving above posted speed limits at night really make the V1 shine when you can tell if the thread is ahead or behind you.

As for size, I don't try to slip it in my pocket so it doesn't really matter The newer version is slightly slimmer and lighter but not worth upgrading to at this time in my case. Which brings up another point, the V1 will be the last detector you own. When a new feature comes out you can just send in your V1 and have it upgraded and keep up with all the latest technology.

Sorry for ranting on for a bit. My friends make fun of me from time to time for having a $400 detector. But they shut up when they ride with me and see how good it is. Plus 3 years ticket free has the V1 paying for itself compared to my previous driving history.

BTW, here goes a link to Car and Driver's last Radar Detector Test.

I love my V1.No tickets since I got it.ANother plus is I can totally disable x band which no cops in S.fla use anymore, which leads to less falses.
As for the laser, only way around it is jamming or luck.Jamming lasers is legal(as of now)since there are no laws protecting light sources from being interferedw/by other light sources,(not true in California, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Virginia, Nebraska, and Washington, D.C.)
.Lidatek Laser Echo is the best that i found.

I agree..... V-1 is well worth the investment !!!! As far as laser jammers go...... still haven't seen anything that says they really work....... anyone know of available test data stating otherwise ??

BTW and FYI--Ignore anything radartest.com says when they are comparing detectors... they are bought and paid for by the highest bidder. Trust C&D.

Grayhd2-

As I posted on the first page of this thread, check out Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine. This months issue has a 2-3 page article on a Laser Jammer that really works. They used a current laser gun and used the same car with and without the jammer and gave the results at 3 different speeds - how many feet away from the gun that triggered the laser jammers warning and then how many feet away before the laser gun gave a readout.

I too have a Valentine One. It's only let me down once (Canadian Mountie cought me with his laser.) Unbeatable for all radar bands though. I have it hard-wired in just over the passenger side of the rear-view mirror.

As far as getting pulled over for no reason? If I was a cop I would pull over a 17 year old that's driving a $30,000+ truck too. Sorry guys (356 and Rice). Not many kids can afford such a truck, so one might assume that it's stolen or bought using money from a not so legal manner. (Again, not refering to you guys). And how else to better that new cops standing in his department than to make a drug bust or recover a stolen vehicle. Now this same situation does not only apply to age. Sadly enough it also occurs in racialy biased cases as well (yes, welcome to the 21st century). So you have to put yourself in that new officer's shoes. And for those that are bashing officers, just leave your names and addresses at your local police stations and I'm sure they'll leave you alone completely (even when you call 911 because someone is breaking into your new HD and stealing your rims while he has a lookout with a sawed off Winchester.)

Adios Paco
