new 1/4 times

went to Houston Raceway tonight. It was around 52 degrees...

Best 60' of the night was a 1.94
Best 1/4 of the night was a 13.40
Best MPH for the night was 102.5

Unfortunately, they were not all on the same run...

I hit the strip as soon as I got there (hot engine) and proceeded to make 7 passes over the next hour and a half so the engine never got a chance to cool down.

Also, I had a little over a half tank of gas so I had some extra weight maybe worth a tenth.

On my last pass, I waited 1/2 hour and the engine cooled WAY down. I jumped on it in the burnout area and popped the rev limiter... I forgot to unplug the boost dump. As I started rolling down the track I thought... what the f@%K! and realized what had happened as I rolled happily along to a 16.25...

I think if I can get all of my bests of the night on the same run along with the good weather and an emptier tank, I can maybe get a 13.2 or so, but I think that is about all I am going to get (for now)...

I still haven't got my chip quite where I want it, so maybe that will help a little.

I am getting better at launching. I would have run 20 times, but I had to get home...

Later

Ken

Ken,
Did you mean to say your best e/t was 13.40? Surely your faster than mid 14's by now.

BTW- I talked to your buddy from House of Speed today. He had a booth at Auto-Rama. I was very impressed with his knowledge. It seems he speaks many different languages. We talked Ford, Chevy, and Mopar. He saved me from making a big mistake on manifold choices for my LS1 conversion...

Great run I guess...

I think you can do much better than a 14.4 -

Like N2 said...13.4 sounds more like it

Very nice! Ken--We gotta hook up when I come down there in May for Fun Ford... can't wait to run my truck (and Mustang) at sea level. Heck, I may even come before then!

I look forward to it... When you come down, let me know...

I am going to tweak the program a bit more and may go with an accufab. I have enough low end to roast the tires, so a little more on top might be cool. By then I will have an exhaust system. Magnaflow is claiming 20HP on a cat back for the 02HD but I doubt it will net even 1. I'll poke around a little more and see if I can come up with anything else to try. I would love to get really low in the 13s this winter or maybe even a 12.99.

My 60' may have another 1/2 tenth max which might net me another 1/2 down the 1/4. That gets me to 13.3. A cooler motor might get me 1/2 tenth.... 13.25. Better tune on my chip maybe worth 1/2 tenth 13.2 and accufab TB maybe another 1/2 tenth... Assuming all of these are net gains, 13.1s don't seem impossible, but will require the planets to be aligned.

Interestingly, there was a lady with an 02 at the track. She installed an accufab, catback, and k&n filter and netted a little over 2 tenths... I am highly doubtful that it was only the mods. I think some experience in launching was prob. most of it.

I should be right there with you... correct for altitude and I'm in the 13.4xx range too. Lose the 140 lb bed cover, spare tire and tailgate... tweak the chip (I'm going over for a wideband O2 dyno run next week, Johnny whould be able to get a little closer with that) and run my 16" ET Streets to get the 60' into the 1.7-1.8 60 ft range--who knows, a 12 sec time slip may be in both our futures .

A 12 second club! I plan on being there when the track opens back-up in the spring.

I now have mods from damn near every tuner out there. I was going to buy my traction bars and electric fan from REM, because I really, really like doing business with Paul, but the local installer here made me a GREAT deal on both and installed them so I didn't have to screw with it. The run I have listed above has all of the following mods:

6lb lower
Air Force One intake (looking at replacing with something else)
Ported TB and Plenum
JDM Chip (Diablo is being reburned now and will be on next time)
Rancho style lifter bars with the LFP brackets
2" rear drop
ford OEM electric fan with harness and switch

I am thinking about a PSP fast air or a JL airbox since both of those have heat shields and hosing to pull in the air from outside.

I am also considering an Accufab TB even though I am being advised not to replace my ported TB with the oval one... Just to try it, you know?

And I will be running the Diablo from here on out. It seems to be really close to where I want it at this time. Hopefully the last burn.

Other mods I am looking at are a factory tech 2400 torque converter, JDMs new larger capacity heat exchanger for the intercooler, and a 170 degree thermostat.

That's all for now, folks!

Nitrous is still in the plans, but I want to get everything else tweaked before I do...

Ken
