Question Help with mods?

Hey guys,

I posted this over on nloc and didn't get much. So here goes....

I have an 02' HD I took it to the track last Friday night and ran 14.409 stock. I got to talk to a couple of guys at the track and they all said that JLP parts are highly recommened. So here is my question.... I was thinking about a Trans Kit, Air intake, Throtle body, 6# lower pulley, Dual flip chip, Traction bars, Denso Plugs. Will all of these mods work good with the truck under everyday use? Now keep in mind that I tow my 14ft trailer w/ my sportsman 700, and also transport lawnmowers(I'm sell lawn mowers). I also want to be able to tow my budddies Camaro to the track.
What do you guys think?

sounds like a good start to me. Their intake is really nice. Are you gonna get the ram air? or just the box and filter and screen?
If you get the ram air setup, ya may want to get one of their outterwears filters also. not that big of a deal, and no performance gains, but no losses either. It'll keep the filter alot cleaner, cuz i've seen guys filters with the ram air where you smack the filter and all this sand pops up out of it The prefilter would keep that out though, and its waterresistant too.
maybe want to get a factory tech valve body also? When greg comes out with one for the 4R70 tranny i want to get one

Josh,
I had no idea that the outerwears filter cover was water proof. Thats why I was staying away from it.

Is there anybody on here that hauls with their HD that has these mods?

I have the following mods and towed my flatbed trailer with my bike from NC to LA with no problem. I averaged 12.5mpg with OD on and 12.0 with it off. Couldn't even tell there was anything back there.

AF1 intake
Superchip flip chip
Line mod valve
Magnaflow muffler
6# lower pulley
oil breather

Best time at the track was 13.65 when it was 90 degrees. I haven't run it since because I'm out of the country.

Josh, there's a Harley dealer here in Seoul, Korea and he has a Black '02 HD.

hey flyarmy, good to see ya still around even though you're out of the country. how long until you are coming back? a year?
anyway, good luck with everything. The HD is gonna feel like brand new when you get to drive it again

huh? why don't you want an outterwears filter crockett? I know JL runs them on all his trucks and he said he's never noticed a difference in power at all with them on or off. helps keep the filter waaaay cleaner. i've got to pick one up for mine.

I tow my Mustang on a 22' open trailer 100 miles each way to the strip... with mods as listed. No problems. I have even (though I don't recommend it) towed it in a 24' enclosed trailer 400 miles with over 1000 lbs extra stuff (generator, 4 wheeler, toolboxes, etc, etc.)--probably 8000 lbs in all. Again no problems.
Take home message? Your truck will do fine towing. Just keep it serviced to overkill, stay out of the boost while towing and make sure you have 40-45 lbs of air in the rear tires.

Josh,

No no. I was going to stay away from "Ram Air" because of the fear that water would get in it. I didn't know that the outters filter was water proof.

Slingshot,

Thanks for the reply. The most that I haul is last weekend(and this saturday) I hauled my buddies 95 camaro to the track to see what she would do. It towed just fine. No Problems. My truck is stock and the only thing that I notice with it is that stupid 2nd gear slip. Most guys say that gets better when you change the fluids and but the valve body mod.

I have one of JLP chips I love it. I have a 6 pound pulley, home made ram air with the bottom of the air filter box cut out. I have no problems what so ever. I just towed my 64 Galaxy 500 to Atlanta the car weighs almost 5000 pounds. It was hard on the truck but we made it. I was getting about 8 miles to the gallon. Get with me and I'll give you some help and save you some money.

Josh, where do you get the outterwears filters you mentioned above? I am planning on doing the "homade ram" and I would like to keep the crap out of my air filter.

won't work with the homemade ram air setup, its for a conical filter, like the JLP ones and all. you can get them from www.johnnylightningperf.com though. I need them to make me a shorter one, cuz the AF1 filters are shorter for the n/a 5.4's so maybe drop them a line to see if they could rig you something up.
