Lightbulb HD trailer hitch

Has anybody rigged a receiver under the bed behind the licence tag
like you pull the tag and holder off and insert a square trailer hitch with ball into a perminatly welded female square receiver for lite trailer towing

For lite towing I would use the bumper (there is a hole in the bumper for a ball isn't there?) with a ball. Used mine that way for a boat (18 ft stern drive) for a while before I got the frame hitch. The ball will scratch the paint off so you would need to get a plastic or chrome filler made to plug the hole and cover the scratches.

Constructing a hitch behind the plate seems like a lot of work and unless you plan to pull something over a few thousand pounds would it be worth it?

one word....rollpan!

get a streetscenes or lund rollpan....good excuse for another mod. LoL. the streetscenes one is my favorite cuz it follows the body curves better IMO. But they usually have the flip up plates for a hitch to come through

i wouldn't tow with the bumper with a reciever ball though, too easy to scratch something, or dent something and make your license plate all mashed up

If you do keep your bumper, i'd say pick up a plastic plug from your ford dealer and sand it and paint it so it matches...looks better than a hole

i used to have a hitch ball just cuz it looked better than a hole...never towed anything. lol

Let us know your findings and if you go with one. I don't know of any other HD with a roll pan on it and would like to see how it looks.

Got that on my list of future mods but it's pretty low priority right now.

Good luck!

yeah, i don't know of anybody that has a rollpan on a HD. I'd like to get one, but need more $$$$ :p I also want to get a SS smooth cowl

anyway, the two most popular rollpans out there are lund and streetscenes.

here's pics of them on L's, but its the same rollpan that would go on a screw

Vinnie's Lund:

RobG's SS:

I want to get a streetscenes cuz i think it matches the body lines better with the curves, but they both look great. the lund is fiberglass and the SS is urethane. not sure where to get the lund, but stylinconcepts.com sells the SS one.

here's my favorite rollpan, but they don't make it anymore. its a sir michaels. on tampasvt's truck
