Lifters or Rockers Ticking?HD 2002
Just wanted to ask if anyone else was having this problem. It started today, and it is getting loader the more I drive it. It sounds like it is coming from the rocker arms or somewhere in the top of the engine under the vavle cover? I have about 4900 miles on it.

Does it sound like it's coming from the driver side? I have some ticking noise that is very faint, but loud enough to be heard on when idling. I can't hear it anymore when I'm up to speed.
First I thought it was wires arching, then I thought, well I don't have a distributor so that's not it. Now that you bring it up, I think it may be the rocker arms.

Well you don't have rockers, you have hydraulic lash adjusters that sit on the valves, under the cams. Could have a bad one. Take it to the dealer. If it's getting worse as you describe it's likely not the piston slap issue that exists.
i could have sworn the 5.4L triton is a SOHC
still can't picture how it works w/ no pushrods
i read that they don't have any on the fordwebsite??? does this sound right? chain driven or soemthing??

Talk to the dealer today and he said the hydraulic lash adjusters that sit on the valves may be bad. He said no big deal, but to me it is. Now I got to take off the pulley and put the stock one back on and no car for two days. I did not know that the engine had two cams and no push rods. Learned something new today, but that is kinda good because now I am trying to find the dual overhead cam heads from the 5.4 from the new GT-40. 500 hp from the factory.
Found this under the engine forum...
All the changes make the 260 horsepower single-overhead cam (SOHC) Triton V-8 quieter to the ears of drivers and passengers. SVT Lightning’s supercharged engine has 380 hp @ 4,750 rpm, an incredible 70 hp per liter, and 450 foot-pounds of torque.

Well I talk to the service rep today, and they are going to put a new engine in it. They said it was coming from the bottom of the engine and not the top, so they are going to pull a engine off the ***. line and send it to them(or atleast that is what Ford told them). So now I won't have the truck for two weeks.
you didn't need to be a smartass. I was asking the question. Because I didn't realize they were dual cam engines. Also, I posted where I found in the Engine forum where it states the engine is a single overhead cam. But whichever it is is fine with me, I was just asking and clarifying. Even in Tennessee, I can count to two.

After thinking about it since these are V8 engines, it doesn't make since that it would have a single overhead cam, you would have to have a cam over each head if you are not using pushrods. I guess that statement I found in the Engines forum was talking about each side. Still trying to find a internal diagram of that motor, but having no luck.

Ive had a ticking noise for 3000 miles.....ive been to 4 different dealerships and they all drove it while I was passanger......couldnt find anything wrong with it.
It sounds like an exhaust leak almost......from the drivers side......heard best when passing cars or driving next to a wall. Its like they are waiting for something to blow before they fix it.
