Driving Light Lens help
A rock jumped up (before I had a chance to put StonGard coating on them) and shattered the Visteon glass lens on one of my driving lights. Went to my dealer to get a new one only to find that Ford only sells the replacement as an entire assembly ... including the stupid plastic mounting bracket! ... for only $199.95!! They indicated that Ford says the entire assembly is required because there are no "servicable parts" with the assembly! I took it out to find that the glass lens can be replaced! Anyone have any ideas where this type of 4.5" diameter/raised glass (or preferably, Lexan) lens can be obtained?
No clue. I lost a light completely due to the plastic mounting bracket breaking while I was driving. Mine was replaced under warranty.
Snap the damn thing off at the bracket and take the truck in with the broken bracket still attached to the bumper without the light.
Ford surely knows this is a defective design at this point. A few of us have had this problem and had the lamps replaced.
I guess you could get a lens made somewhere but I don't know of anywhere you can buy a replacement one. You can get the light a little cheaper if you check around but I would seriously try the warranty approach first.
Good luck!

My son (17 yrs) had the same problem with his Mazda Protege 5 and discovered that Piia (sp) makes a light that will fit the hole in the valance. Better quality and cheaper for a pair than the OEM stuff for a single light. He plans to replace both with the Piias when he can scrape up some spare cash.
Of course if yours fell off and got lost it would be very unfortunate or even if you could bring back the pieces that got run over by the rear tire

my bracket broke also. the light was hanging by the wires though so i could save it. i have a spare light now, but i'm saving it just incase. I have no idea how it happened though. never hit anything, so i have no clue. anyway, took the truck to the dealer and they checked it out. since there was no damage except 1/2 a bracket for a fog light they covered it under warranty. saved me 200 bucks. but seriously, like bill said, get infront of your truck and push on the foglight until the bracket snaps, it doesn't take too much, another member's little girl accidently snapped the bracket when she was pushing on the light and he got it replaced, and then just unplug the light and take it to a different dealer and get it replaced underwarranty.
hey, they are always cheating people out of stuff, they deserve a little payback now and then. its their fault they used a bad design for the fogs
damn, i even have a pic of this, but the site is down where its at so i can't post it
i've got a pic for almost everything
LoL!

Thanks all! Took it in to the dealer today after the light bracket myteriously broke! ... 5 days for the warranty part to come in. Ford really should sell the component parts for these. Otherwise, they better come up with a "bullet-proof" retrofit for the driving lights bracket! ... cause their going to be covering a heck of a lot of them under warranty!
My rig is an '02 Shadow Grey; build #00677. Pics up soon.
Thanks again.

Glad it worked out for you, LeeRandall.
I agree they should improve their design on this one. Not sure why they would go with a plastic bracket on such a vulnerable part. Obviously they are trying to save money but I think it may be costing them in the long run with all these lamps breaking.
Anyway, welcome and watch out for the mod bug. It is sure to bite you if it hasn't already.
