Cool Starting From Scratch

On Wednesday my Truck turned two years old. This meant I had one more year left on my lease. That started me thinking about buying out the lease now or wait out the year and then buy it, or get a new one next year. I called the dealer I bought the Truck from and got some numbers on how much it would cost me to buy now over 5 years or wait a year and then buy over 5 years. Buying it now would be cheaper, but only by about $800. I asked a few people for there opinion and of course got different responses. Buying out the Truck also meant that after next year I would no longer have a warranty and I would need new tires soon enough.
So today I started thinking, what about getting into a 2002 HD now. I knew a dealer that had two on the lot two weeks ago so I figured let go for a drive. Walked into the showroom and asked the first salesman I saw if I could take a look inside on of the HD’s on the lot. He came out with me and I told him about my current lease, how much was left to pay. He asked his manager to look into what my current Truck is worth while we went for a nice test drive. I had been curious what the blower would feel like comparing the power to my 2000. What a difference. The 02 felt better on the road. Very nice.

So back at the dealership we start talking money. At first they gave me a monthly payment figure, which was a bit high, and they wanted almost $5000 on delivery. I just kept very quiet and started shaking my head. The longer I shook my head the more things they found to reduce the price (Funny how that happens). I got them to a monthly payment of only $50 more a month than I am paying now and $500 on delivery. Signed the lease and the sold sign was on the Truck. The build number is #07644, Black. I will not be picking it up until Thursday, because I am going out of tow for work.
I will need to take the Lightning tails of my current Truck and the Stereo and replace them with the originals.

Sorry for the long post

Martin

First, CONGRATS on the '02! You're going to love it.

No worries on the post length there. I think it's always good when we can hear about, and learn from, each other's buying experiences.

Did they get the payments down so low by offering yet another lease/smart buy or did they actually manage on an outright purchase?

The money due on delivery came down because they "found out" that the Truck qualified for the first month paid by Ford. Also they calculated the what they could get for my truck vs. what is left owing on it with higher number then I knew they where. Since I had gotten the exact figure of my other dealer. Most likely they would have put the no first payment in their pocket otherwise. I could tell they really wanted to sell me the Truck. At one time I got up to go out and call a buddy. The sales guy looked like he was afraid I would drive away.

Josh

Pictures will be posted as soon as I get the Truck and clean it my way.

I got a call from the dealer this morning where I bought my 2000 HD. He was surprised that I was buying a 02 now after talking to him about buying out the current one. So he wanted a chance to give me a quote on his 02, Shadow Grey. Gave me a price that was $60 less a month then the deal I had made. So I called the other dealer and told him about the new quote. He wasn’t to happy but he dropped the price by $40 a month from the original. I prefer the black so I said, great. Now for the best part, I get to pick it up tonight. Can’t wait.

well all you'd have to do is contribute say 30K or so, and i'll be right over

I do want to get a white lightning and get white powdercoated rims someday.

i also really really want one of each of the HD series, but that may take a while. Never gettin rid of my 00 though

Welcome to the 'unnaturally aspirated' section... now just add a lower pulley and a chip and a filter and... and...

Does the grin go away? People are going to think I am nuts walking around with a smile on my face. The Truck is beautiful. I thought my 2000 was quick but this kind of power is just insane. I put on my L tails and my billet antenna as soon as I got home. I still need to put my Kenwood head unit in. Gave the interior a quick wipe down as well. On Saturday she will get her first proper cleaning. I love the interior.

Build # is 07644. I will take pictures on the weekend and post A.S.A.P

The power is awesome stock, wait until the mod bug kick in...
For only a few hundred dollars you can make these trucks scary fast!! Due to my age I missed out on the muscle car era, but with these types of trucks you can tinker, well a little, and get serious HP changes! It's really a kick. My 9 year old son has as much fun as I do with it. Although, I'm doing all the driving...
Enjoy the new ride, and keep the grin.
Brian

Well it's been barley three day's and I still can't believe how quick this Truck is. Today on the highway I barley stepped on it and she was at 160kmh (100 miles). In my 2000 HD that was the limit and you knew you where doing it. In this one it’s nothing. The new truck handles much better to. She got her first bath today. By the time I was done it was almost dark already ( I miss Summer) so I could not take any pictures yet. On Sunday I am going to a Show and Shine being held at a dealership not far from me.

It is being organized by the SVT Ontario Association. A bunch of Guys from the Ontario Chapter from the other site are also going. Should be lots of fun. I better not forget my camera.
