No, you do not need a boost bypass for any pulley upgrades. Oh, and by the way, there is never a dumb question on this forum!

Yes our trucks are designed to dump boost from time to time; usually during excessive tire spin. But installing a boost bypass kit, or unpluging the boost bypass is not required.

Does it affect performance if the bypass is unplugged ?

Now that question will definitley be debated. However I say yes, and only because of personal exp. I unplugged mine and picked up over 2 tenths in the 1/8 mile. Now this was early on in my drag racing adventures, so it could have been that I was actually starting to get better. I have a buddy with an L (Chikenears) and he swears it gives you better performance. So I unplug mine at the track.
