Question Subwoofer Enclosure Specs

I have seen some 10" subs installed behind the rear seats of other SuperCrews. I also looked at the 8" Blackwood OEM enclosure, I think it won't be enough for what I need.

I'm planning to build a wedge enclosure that will house my 10"
Alumapro and I would prefer working on wood. I would also consider laying some glass but would rather go with wood.

How do you take out the back cab panel cover?

Anyone has specs/measurements on a 10" enclosure that will fit behind the rear console?

Sub Enclosure - Housing

Just spec'd out a new system for my '02 - Boston Acustics / Alpine & JL Audio. JL has a replacement rear center console. Supposedly they pull the "skin" off the rear console and use it to cover the new sub enclosure - has either 10" or 12" sub in it. Looks really clean - and can the original console is not altered so that replacement can be done. Only draw back Is that you loose all rear console storage function, leaves about 2" depth when you lift the rear console cover. Is this the same as the Blackwood? I think the cost was $500 including the sub for the JL Audio unit.

I believe I would have a custom box built and put under the rear seats before trashing my rear console, but that is just my opinion.

Well, the console idea is really not my type. I don't want to lose the console. Under seats is really tough to get the airspace I need to make the sub sound good. I still have my old subbox.net box single 10" for my old Screw. I just can't figure out how I can build something similar under the seats.

The console solution from JL is not the same as Blackwood OEM subwoofer option.

The JL does not include an amplifier if you are talking about the Stealthbox. It retails for around $550 and has a 10". Will be available in about two weeks according to their tech rep. I ordered the Blackwood box with the 8". Decided against giving up the rear console. It has the amp with it. I may replace with an upgrade 8" if I can find one that fits the box after it arrives. Keep in mind that the speaker cover does not come with the Blackwood box. It only comes with the whole rear cover for $400 to $500. I'll make a cover out of the 10X10 cover in my '02. I'll let you know how it works out. I expect the sub to come in this Friday.

i have the blackwood box and it is nice for basic bass, but the fosgate 10 i had in my supercrew in the subbox.net box hit a lot harder. I am going to get one of those JBL boxes sooner or later. For you who say you don't want to lose your rear console, what do you have in there now?

I didn't want to either, but I have found I don't use it at all, so losing it really isn't a big deal.

i agree with you ken, guys keep talking about loosing their space in their rear consoles and stuff like that. I can't imagine how much stuff you must have in the trucks to fill one of them up . i wouldn't want that much crap in my truck You guys would be lost if you had a 00 HD. The front console has about 1/2 as much room as just one of the monsterous 01/02 consoles, and the 02's even have the added storage space of the expy console. (plus you've got door pockets and storage under the seats and behind the rear seats don't you? )I'd say if the quality of the sound is that much better than a blackwood box or whatever, i would think it would be worth it to loose the space in one console for the extra quality in sound if thats your thing. Just my .02$

Lately I found another 02 owner around my area that has a stock Blackwood subwoofer with a stock stereo. Personally, when I listened to it it was not up to my expectations. Of course, everyone has their own expectations of what sounding good is.

To answer the question for what I have in the rear console here's what I got. A stack full of software cds, tools for repairing laptops, DC to AC converter and a Husky toolbox set. I already got the back access panels filled with ratchet strap downs, extra oil, drive belt, a baseball bat... yes a baseball bat just in case of any idiots trying to mess with my HD.

It would be a shall we say a little disappointing if I lose it.

geez ever think of getting an under the rail tool box

all i've got in my truck are a set of jumpercables, some cd's, some gloves, an umbrella, various papers (directions, etc) and an ice scraper in my front console. I've got my manual, a couple pens, a pack of those tempo towel wipe things in my glove compartment. and under my rear seat i've got the headlight covers, the window sun screen reflector thing, 2 absorbers, and teh cali duster. ANd i've got some bungee cords in one of the rear door pockets. All this stuff i don't even need with me (absorbers and stuff like that) but it would all easily fit in 1/2 a 02 HD console. LoL

hmm, now everybody else list what you've got in your truck

I have to agree with Ken also unless you really have a lot of stuff in your rear console.I think thats the way to go.I have been to about 5 different places and they all tend to think that would be the best place at least for the amount of bass I'm looking to get.I figure you can always turn down the bass but can only turn it up so much.....

i like to keep the truck as clutter free as I can...

I don't believe any of those boxes will work on an HD since it has the center console in the back.

WatchThis,

well MHTYFman has a 00 HD so probably just forgot or something, so to clear that up a little more, it won't work on a supercrew HD (01 or 02)

Bringing a baseball bat to a gun fight?
After reading what all you guys carry in your truck, I'm feeling a little unprepared...:o
I currently have an 8" bazooka tube in the back floorboard and I can say that I absolutely hate it... I've been waiting for that JL sub to come out...
