Gee, what a suprise, more bad luck
Well, after the dealer replaced my rear window trim, they forgot to plug the 3rd brake light back in, and its leaking water now also. That's getting fixed friday.
When they replaced the seat cover, they scratched the seat trim by the controlls really bad. New piece was ordered today.
2 weeks ago the tonneau cover lock cylinder just spun in its casing, and i had that replaced. The guy asked me then if my tonneau was separating because its sort of a problem on some of the HD tonneaus, and luckily mine wasn't one of them, so i thought i had a good cover. I drive down to SC a few days later, and when i washed the truck i noticed a huge puddle in the middle of the cover. This never happens before. I open it up and the whole left side of the cover has separated and is barely holding on. I'm thinking all they'll have to do is take it off and reglue it. Nope! I gotta wait until they send out an entirely new tonneau cover and assembly, and keep in mind it took 14 months to get the 1st one, so i don't expect the new one to be any 2 week wait or anything
Also, with this one i was lucky to find ZERO defects when i got it, who knows what i'll get on the next one. I pray that its aight. And they probably did nothing about the problem like USING STRONGER GLUE!, so probably next year around this time i'll have to order a 3rd cover
they fix one problem and create another
Does it ever end!?!??!!??! When's my turn to catch a break?
sorry, just had to vent.
*edit* o yeah, and its raining now after i washed the truck yesterday too, and were supposedly in a drought. LoL

Sorry to hear of your troubles. For the inconvenience they should
replace your 3rd brake light with the L.E.D. light. It completes the look.

yeah, but i'm not that crazy about the L 3rd brake light. It still looks really cool, don't get me wrong, but i just like the red lense better. I guess i'm one of the few, LoL. I've never seen it at night though. Now a set of L taillights...
I want to get some sort of a vinyl cutout that would cover the 3rd brakelight, and just have the cargo/backup light part cut out, and a HD symbol cutout in the middle for the red light to shine through. That would look pretty cool.

Harley # 356,
I am sorry but not surprised to hear that I am not the only one having number of problems. My issues started at delivery (it was delayed for 3 weeks due to dealer not securing additional parts on time) and have reached stage at which I was at service at least once a week, and then they told me I would need to leave truck there for several days. This all on truck that has less than 6K miles on it.
I am seriously tempted on writing open letter to Ford and Harley-Davidson if this does not stop soon for good. If I go down that road I will be looking for others to join me in signing it.
Good luck!

Hey ZoranC,
I'm with you if you write that letter... I've already sent one to ford explaining all the troubles I've been having with my truck.

yeah, the bad luck never seems to end. I'm just happy i got the truck in the 1st place. WHen i went to buy it, ford credit tried to tell me my car was repossessed (which it wasn't and i had the title right in my hands) and that i delared bankrupt on the house and car (which i didn't). That was the longest 4 days of my life trying to get that straigtened out because whether or not i got the HD was at stake.
also had to wait 14 months for the tonneau cover and me and ford and leer went round and round with that. They kept feeding me excuses, so i called channel 10 news, and they were gonna do an investigation thing cuz it was a big problem 00HD guys were having, and 2 weeks later my cover just happened to come in, the lock cylinder company wasn't on strike any longer, they resolved the paint and hinge issue all like that. Gee what a suprise

Also, had somebody key the passenger doors and front fender when the truck was 4 weeks old, got that fixed, and they put 90 miles on the truck in 2 days
got my 1st dent in the passenger side door around christmas time cuz somebody parked too close to it when i was parked in the boonies. Its super tiny, but still there.
My front valance got scraped up on a curb when somebody else was driving it. fixed that myself and looks 95% better
the list goes on and on, i think thats enough negativity for one post. LoL
Good luck w/ your guy's troubles, it should all pay off someday. Hopefully. lol

A lot of you have mentioned problems but not any details, please elaborate for us. I have a 2002 HD and have a new annoying dash rattle and have noticed that the paint on both sides of the bed behind the wheel wells looks metallic because of the poor paint coverage! I am alos still botherd by minor wind noise through the front doors, just doesn't seem acceptable on a 2002 vehicle! Don't get me wrong I still love the HD but these little things are very annoying, especially each month when i make the payment! Thanks for reading and I hope you can reply with problems that you have had.

I understand that sometimes there will be some issues, but they should be exception, not a rule, especially on vehicles that are practically new. Yes, you could say that they are after all F150 trucks, but Ford is banking on reputation of Harley-Davidson name, Harley-Davidson is enforcing that with letting Ford advertise it as "official truck of Harley Davidson", and they DO carry premium price in part because of that too. Therefore, I do expect appropriate value for my money (they did not give it to me for free after all) and I do not want to spend all this time and money dealing with issues that should have been caught before truck even left a factory. I am not the one that is supposed to be doing quality control for Ford, period, and I am sure they would not like it if they had any issues with my check after I delivered it to them and had as much inconviences with me as I had with them.
I am working on documenting all of my problems systematically. Don't be surprised if, when time comes for that, I come here and ask that you join me. So gather your notes and write it all down on time. I am very serious about stopping this seemingly never ending cycle and doing what it takes to get just satisfaction for time/money already wasted.

Coumer, i'm not upset with the quality of the truck at all. The ONLY problem i've ever had with anything on her that was from the factory is tiny little cracks in the roof channel, which is a common problem from what im' hearing. Every other problem i've had is that i took it into the dealer for something, and they fixed that and screwed up something else. I'm very happy with the quality of the truck (paint, mechanics, design, etc), not so happy with the quality of the work at the dealership. Now as for the cover and Leer, thats a different story. They were most likely lowest bidder for the job, and used crappy glue to save $$$$. now its coming back to get them. I love the design of it, just not the quality of the glue, everything else (fit, finish, mechanics) on it i like. These companies need to get their priorities straight. It doesnt pay in the end to cut corners just to save $$
Im hoping that you are keeping your origional Tonneau too........you should do this incase you ever want to sell it.......I heard that Ford has leer destroy the molds and if we need another one then we are SOL...this is why im trying to buy a second Tonneau for mine.
Lunchbox, to get the new one, they have to return the defective one so i can't keep it. I don't plan on EVER selling the truck anyway, but i still wanna keep all the original parts that i can. As for the cover, they didn't destroy the mold because they are making new ones to replace the damaged ones. The cover will be exactly like the one i have now. I wouldn't accept anything but that. So its all good
ZoranC, i forgot to mention the window seal. When i got the truck it was perfectly fine, it has been just recently over the last few months that it started popping out, but it wasn't leaking, and wasn't that noticible unless you looked for it up close. This is a common problem on all older ford trucks that don't have the updated seal. But they fixed it no questions asked and its fine now. But that and they roof channel cracks are the only think i can think of that are "quality" issues, and the window's fixed now and i'll be taking it in to get the channels repainted sometime. And if thats the only 2 problems i have with quality issues, which are easily fixed for free, i'm not gonna worry about it too much.

ZoranC,
I am with you on networking to make the HD trucks the that a $37,000 vehicle should be! I love the truck, just a little concerned with quality issues! You might want to read my last thread on "Dash rattle" that I posted today.
Thanks,
