Orange Calipers

I started painting my calipers orange today. i got the back done, and will probably do the front tomorrow. I am very pleased with the results and i will post pics when i finish. I used plasti-kote engine enamel, color code 226 "chrysler ornage" i also used CRC brakekleen to clean the calipers before painting. the pint has a very hard shiny finish and looks like it should hold up well.... while i had the wheels off i polished them with chrome polish. I got all the parts from pepboys for less than $15. stay tuned for pics.

i painted my calipers about a week ago. I used high temp engine paint cuz i couldn't find any plastikote. I just sprayed the paint in a container and went. It worked pretty good, but the color was flat silver (didn't have gloss) and it looks more gray in certain light, so i'm gonna redo mine with gloss silver rustoleum. Good luck with yours. I'm interested to see how orange looks

Looks great. A little too bright for my taste, but it does look good. I gotta redo mine sometime with a glossier silver.
(i'm also gonna sand down and paint the inside of my tips while i'm at it, cuz they are alittle rusty inside)

the engine enamel paint works well. but it requires many coats.... i wasnt sure about the orange but it isnt as bright as it looks.... you dont even notice it that much. it is just really shiny and i took those pics with a flash, i think it makes it seem brighter.... if i get sick of it ill just paint them black.... but i figured if i was going to do the work i want to notice...

I plan on doing something similar like Harley#356 but I will probably go with a gloss black. Harley#356 has the right idea about painting the hub center as well. I swap wheels in the winter and have a he!! of a time getting the wheels off from surface rust. The stock aluminum wheels I use in the winter are the worst. I plan on squirting the back of my winter wheels with a clear coat before I put them on this season.

I painted just the holders orange last month when I put on new brake pads. I still want to paint the calipers as well, but I will probably do them in black. There is a picture on my site.(The picture makes it look kind of red, but it is orange)

Yeah, i couldn't have any rust on this beautiful beast. LoL Next up i'm gonna sand down the INSIDE of my tips and paint em with a silver paint that matches what the original metal of the inside of the tips looked like, cuz they are starting to get some rust inside of em. I'll post pics when i do it. Probably before the next show.

I also picked up a quart of satin black rustoleum to paint the axle and such cuz they are starting to pit and they don't clean up too good. And its gotta look nice for shows

mschon, your calipers looks good like that. I am thinking about doing a two toned thing when i repaint em too. Probably mostley silver, and just a little HD orange to match the pinstripe. I dunno yet. But all of em look better than the goldish stock color.

Beat you to it That was one of the first things I did but I painted them flat black. It was a b!tch to get the tips off because they are a one-piece unit and won't turn easy to break the rust bond.

Ah dang it. LoL. :P No big deal. I'm just gonna leave em on the truck when i do it though. Just sand down the inside and paint it with a brush and some silver rustoleum. I'll probably tape around the edges just to make sure though. Can you post a pic of yours so i can see how the black looks? Thanks

2000F150HD, let me know how the polishing works. I may try this if it works for you. I have a dremel so it shouldn't be too hard. What tips should i use? Wire brush then compound? Thanks

356 here's the pictures. I have to apologize for the unpolished chrome. The truck hasn't been washed in 2 weeks I need to get some steel wool and clean up the tips so the polish does some good.

I used high temp engine paint in an aerosol can so removing the tips were a must. The truck looked funny as h3ll without the tips. I ended up taping the whole unit with masking tape. It took longer to mask the unit then to prep and paint it.

Thanks abullerm, you better stop posting on here and go clean your truck. LoL, j/k. I know how that can be. Sometimes i have no time to wash my truck, and were in a drought (even though you wouldn't think it cuz its rained every day for the last week!) so if you get caught washing you get a 1K buck fine, no warnings. So i have to go up to the car wash. It gets to be a pain. But anyway, sometimes she gets so dirty i'm embarassed to drive it. But at least at a distance it doesn't look too bad.

tips gotta be the hardest part to keep clean IMO. The bottom of mine are a little corroded just below the opening on the bottom like where water would drip out. Can't see it unless you lying on the ground looking up, and its only small, but i know its there so it bugs me. Also my back tip has alittle crack in teh chrome where the exhaust from the front tip would first hit it. Very small and almost unnoticible, but don't want it to get worse. Tips are a PITA to keep clean. O well, they look awsome when clean so....
