Loudest

What is the loudest, meanest sounding exhaust system that I can install when I get my '02 HD? I have had a Gibson Supertruck exhaust on my '98 F150 and it sounded very good, but I was looking for a badazz exhaust that would match the looks of this truck.

Many have installed Magnaflows to achieve a big block sound.

If its sound & not performance your after I would cut the exhaust off just in front of the muffler put on a Y pipe & run the pipes straight to the back(nice & loud). I lost the bottem end performance on mine.

Just make it true duals w/o a muffler. That should be loud enough, or maybe even the magna packs. I have heard they are loud.

No, I do not want performance to suffer in order to improve sound, I was just searching for a good mix of performance hp lift and strong sound. I have heard some Gibson, Borla, and Flowmaster units, just seaching for what you all use.

Cool

The 02 HD comes with true dules. The muffler is duel in and duel out. I cut the the muffler off and installed a X pipe. that was cheaper than getting 2 new mufflers. The sound is nice not too loud untill you get in it then everybody hears ya.

Replace the stock DI/DO muffler with two flowmasters 40's. It sounds awesome and it's VERY loud but managable on highway speeds...60-65+ MPH. If I'am just cruising around town I'll leave OD off and drive about 40...sounds like a beast!

Blake,

I have heard that the 40's are loud!!! How is the interior resonace, too overbearing, I mean can you still carry on a conversation, or is it somewhat tolerable??

Yea, it's loud. Sometimes at certain speeds it's very loud, but not enough to drown out a converstation. I wanted the loudest possible sound, but didn't want it to drone on the highway. I hate driving 300 miles with a headache because of the exhaust. I've done the no muffler setup in previous F150's and didn't like it at all. It's pretty loud, but instead of a growl it sounds like a whooshing sound...something like that anyway. The best description that I can think of with the dual flowmasters on there would be like hearing a Camaro Z28 SS taking off...multiply that by 2X and that's the sound you get. Very mean!

Thanks Blake, I may be leaning towards this setup as long as it doesn't beat me to death on a long trip, I also hate needing to take tylenol when I get where I am going.

No wooshing here, at Idle it is just a little louder than stock. Get into her and she screames. It is loud inside at around 50-55 but at 60 on up it isn't loud.

Maybe the X pipe help give it a growl and minimizes the "airy" sound?

I'm going to try the Magnaflow muffler welded into the stock pipes... not sure which one yet--#14468 is a 24" DI/DO stainless with 4" center to center on the pipes, #12468 is the same only in aluminized... they also make a #14589 which is a stainless 28" (quieter) version with 5 3/4" center to center, #12568 is the aluminized version. I really liked the Magnaflow on my '01 S'crew and on my Cobra... great quality piece with very nice rumble.

Question, and I may answer it myself, but you said you put on 40 series Flowmasters, since I am sure it is shorter than the stock muffler, did you simply cut the stock off, add pipes for length, and install 1 40 series or did you go with a different setup?

Thanks

Yes, they are a little bit shorter than the stock one. The guy cut it, then made a hanger on the new mufflers to hang from the stock location and he had to add a little bit of piping to make it fit. Everything looks stock as I didn't want anything to look different. Kept the same tailpipes, same location, etc.. He did have a problem trying to squeeze the two mufflers in the "spot". He lined them up perfectly though. He charged a little bit more, but when you see the guy complaining that the mufflers are 1/4 inch crooked and he tries to fix it, it's worth it. I'll pay more for people that appreciate my vehicles...just a perk of mine.
