Supercharged Shifting
I was thinking about trading in my 01 for a 02 this weekend so I went to the dealer for a test drive. Loved the truck! Hated the shift! Before I trade(if i trade) I was curious to know what you guys have done about the hard *** shifting. That cant be to good on the tranny. I found one place with something that they claim fixes that but does it really work? WWW.SALEEN.COM has a part in there truck section that they say helps this. Anyone trid this or anything like it?
Yeah right, I laid on it during the test drive from a dead stop and thought that when it shifted it was gonna **** the tranny up. Even my otherhalf thought that something was wrong. Maybe I got the ragged out demo/tester truck but I couldnt tell from looking at it.
DB682- Have you considered the "Factory Tech" valve body upgrade. I have one in my F250LD and the Lightning guys love it. It runs $200.00 and worth every penny.

You should feel the shifts at WOT with a Superchip!
Feels like you just got rear-ended. Normal driving with the chip gets you normal shifts (will hold a gear longer than stock). I like the firmer shift, but also think that can't be too good on the tranny.

Straight Mercon, used in the 4R100, usually has a very slightly harsher engagement than Dex3. You could try a premium ATF which is rated both Dex3/Mercon. It might give you a little softer engagement. I'd wait a bit. They're right about break-in: after some miles the tranny should shift a little smoother.
All the chips "firm up" the engagement, since this is usually what racers want. I guess you could have them burn a special chip with an even softer engagement, but you'd run the risk of causing glazing of the clutch plates.

If harleybull is right then I guess its better. Its hard to believe that though. I was in a supted up cobra mustang a while ago(4yrs) when he screwed up his tranny. Donuts in the rain!!! It just all of the sudden starting slowing down while the engine was still pushing. Smelt like shi t right away. It was manual 6speed but it still scares me to this day. Stuck on south beach @ 3am half drunk. Just waiting to get arrested. Never again will I take part in the half drunking activites i used. Cant afford it!! I still think a smooth fast shift is better but i guess ill need a stick for that.
Firmer shifts are better for the tranny, like he said, teh wear occurs during that nice smooth slip in the shifts. But it sounds like the one you drove may have had a sitcky valve in the accumulator, I've found that they shift too soft for my taste. My valve bosy will correct the soft shift, and if it is a sticky valve it'll correct that, too, as the accumulator replaces the mentioned valve, simple bolt in kit. People seem to like it, I can't keep up with the orders, and it really does work great.
