The Install. The results
The install of the MSD Stacker 8 was easier then i thought. The directions that came with it were no help. I Used a diagram in a Chiltons Manual for most of it. Here are some pics and i posted alot more of the install and a bunch of pit row at the speedway during practice for some teams this morning. Ive got some very good privilages out there. Anyways if you have any questions just post them and ill get them emailed to me. My final ruling on the install and the results are. Install: not as easy as it sounds but if you no a little about mech. and electrical work no problem. Results: well worth the money and time. Extremely good improvements off the line and no lagging at high rpms like before. Ill post more details about the results ASAP. It started raining so i came in for the night.
im thinking about getting the MSD unit for my lightning. You said the instructions are useless? Before I get it I want to be sure that I can install it my self. Can you give a short description of the install...like what wire went to what(if its not too long)?
thanks
thanks
ll use smilies to seperate anwsers
JUP. Yes I believe the unit is carb approved, If Im not mistaken I think i saw a sticker in the box stating so, but I didt even think twice about putting it on. I like to keep a clean engine bay. All stickers do is eventually peel off. I might be wrong ill double check later and let you know
J15. The install was fairlly simple. If you can read a diagram or install a radio without blowing a fuse and have access to some minor tools it shouldnt be a problem. Dont get me wrong, Ive done much easier installs. But i wounldnt say that it was hard. The hardest part was finding a location to mount the unit.
#1 The easiest and most accessable location to tap the coil triggers was at the cpu harness behind the battery. If youve installed a chip then you know that unpluging and pluging that harness in is a bitch. That 10mm bolt in the middle is hell on your hands. Youll do that a couple times if you have to troubleshoot anything. I had a bad conx and noticed 1 of the 8 leds was out so i had to test each conx to fix it. #2 The trigger wires have to be run seperatly form the power wires so you end up with a bundle of 8 wires (triggers), a bundle of 3 power (2 coil positives and a ground). I grounded above the firewall on the passenger side in the factory frame ground location. The coil positives went to the first coil on the pass. side at the front
