Gas $

Ok, I've been thinking of getting a 2001 HD or a 2001 Mustang GT. I wanna go fast but Im not a speed demon, just something that I can have fun with once in a while. Anyways, I know Mustang GT's have the infamous high insurace rate but on the other hand, the HD's are infamous for their low fuel mileage.

In your opinions, what would cost more? $3000 of insurance + gas for Mustang GT or $1500 + gas money for 01 HD?

Thanks for you Help

How much are you planning to drive either vehicle? Should you even consider purchasing either of the two if you're worried about fuel or insurance cost? The SVT focus might be a better way for you to go.

don't you have a L? It doesn't matter anyway cuz the HD or Stang would look cool next to it. But the svt focus is a good idea Did you know ford is coming out with a mustang Mach I next year? its pretty cool looking and its got a functional shaker hood just a thought, let us know if you go for the hog or the pony

Yea....but isnt the Mach I targeted at around 40G?

Im not really "worried" about about the insurance and gas mileage, but I wanna know which one will cost me more in the long run. Right now its dead even and I need SOMETHING that will help me to go ahead and purchase one of these cars!

Thanks For the Replies

Cool

Well I always say to people that ask me about "gas" mileage "Downunder" re my HDF-150 (2001) that if you've got to ask that question you can't afford to buy the ute in the first place... my HDF-150 cost me about USD50grand to bring in "Downunder" after transport, taxes, conversion, etc .....so I guess that means you should buy neither the Harley or the Mustang..... and gas prices "Downunder" work out at around USD2 a gallon..... so that even further supports my argument..... I am paying heaps more for gas than you......and I couldn't give a rats about the price of gas or how much it will use...... and you are still asking the question???
Do they still import Hyundai sedans in the USA.... perhaps they will be more economical for you on the gas and insurance....

Geez....you guys dont seem to read very thoroughly.... Im not concerned about the gas...I can pay for that...I just couldnt make up my mind on whether I wanted a Mustang to go fast or the Harley to cruise in. This might help tilt the scale and lead to a purchase.

I've been asking around and the "scale" is tilted towards the Harley....with very little help from some of you guys....

The Cobra with the 4.6 DOHC AND a BLOWER will be in the $34-35K...with the Convertibles topping out somewhere in the $40k range!

The MACH 1 will not be $40K. The Mach One will be a detuned (300hp) version of the 4.6 DOHC with SOLID rear (No IRS). Most importantly NO BLOWER. This is being built to apeace people who didn't want the Independent rear suspension but wanted DOHC and some real power. Priced somewhere around $29-30K.

Hell think of it as a BULLITT with Steroids......BULLITT was $25k!

02 HD Dark Grey
01 L Silver
94 Cobra Indy Convertible
93 Cobra TEAL

Hey poweredbySVT, you seem to know a lot about Stangs...about how long does the engine survive on average? I also hear that there are a lot of nagging problems with this engine. I want a car that is RELIABLE. I will definetly take care of the car that I will eventually get with regular check ups and will give my baby the best parts money can buy.....well, to an extent , but do you think the Mustang could last up to 150K miles?

Thanks
