Question X PLAN DEALER

Does anyone know of a dealer that will take x-plan on this truck w/o giving me any crap. My local dealer is saying they don't have to give me x-plan on the 02 Harley. I'm in LA California

'02 HD in Dallas paper

Just a note that in today's Dallas paper, a dealer had a '02 listed in his ad for $35,693.. It is discounted $2467 off MSRP.

They don't have to give you X-plan, it is Dealer Voluntary. But if you shop around you'll find one, since it creates a relationship with a new customer that may lead to additional slaes down the road.

hmmm, so can i just ask the dealer for the 'x-plan'??
is the x-plan some kind of buying plan for ford employees and family?
this dealership in the area had 3 hd's on his lot and wanted to charge 'close to retail' whatever that means. i offered $500.00 over invoice and he gave me some speel about limeted edition, hard to get blah blah blah. i'll wait him out.
another dealer actually suggested waiting for the 03's to get on the market (summer) and ty to buy an 02 for much cheaper. does this sound any good? i don't want to wait till summer and still can't get an 02!

C U L8R,

The X-Plan is offered to Ford Business partners and stockholders. If you did not send in the special form that is needed to receive a PIN number you will not be able to get X-plan pricing until next year. The deadline for submitting the application has passed (03/31/02).

I’m sure if you wait until later in the year you will have better bargaining power. However, if you wait that long you might as well order the 03 early and lock in a fair price. The jury is still out on the 03’s, some are hinting that the 03’s will come in 4x4 form (F250) and some say this will be the only year of the supercharged version. We are all waiting until the SEMA show to find out for sure. If I were you I would search around, many of us on the board were able to purchase a 02 for less than 34,000.

CU L8R,
This might be a bit far for you but there is a dealer in Ravenel, SC (just south of Charleston) that sells everything at invoice +$98. It is called Ravenel Ford and the website is Ravenelford.com. They will fax invoice of trucks to you, etc. I have bought my '02 HD from them and picking it up next weekend. ( I don't know if I would ever buy another Ford product from anyone else.) I know he has another HD coming in pretty soon.

Buying a H-D for less

Hey folks,

I saw the post and decided to reply (not done often). I actually picked up my 2001 H-D SC for $28,500. It was used with 9k miles, single owner, not as much as a scratch on it. It already had the K&N air upgrade many other extras that do not come with the truck. Total price financed (without Ford credit, don't like them) was $32,000...

I also had alot of problems finding one for a good deal. With the list and mark-ups, the truck can range from 32k-43k. Just depends on if the dealership is motivated to sell.

If you buy one used, get the previous owners name and talk to them. Ask why they sold or traded. Mine was owned by an older guy who traded in on a new Thunderbird. It was always garage kept and the maintenance maintained.

Sweet deal if you ask me...

Del

THanks for the advice. I think i'm gonna go ahead and try for a new 2002 though. i'm set on being the first owner ( and hopefully only).
dealerships around these parts don't seem pressed to sell these trucks - i guess the few that come in can be sold at or close enough to msrp.
i have been talking to the dealership Ike mentioned in S.C. - they seem really on the up and up - no bull. he's getting back to me today on how long it will take if i have one ordered.
wish me luck.

Order it! That way you can get it exactly the way you want... for example I wanted heated seats and a moonroof but hate CD changers and sliding rear windows. It is worth waiting 4-6 weeks to get the price you want and the exact options you want.

You Need A Friend @ Ford

C U L8R - The X-Plan is available to 'friends' of Ford employees. If you have someone you know that works for Ford, they can get the necessary PIN to activate the X-Plan purchase. I think Ford employees are allowed either 4 or 8 X-Plan buys a year. I know A-Plan is 4, but I can't recall how many for X-Plan. Baring that, you will just have to shop around. My '02 arrived about a week ago. It's GREAT!! Hope you decide to go for it. Good Luck.

X-Plan

Sorry to barge in; but what the heck is the X-Plan?

This thread is interesting as I have the Y2K H-D F-150 and was thinking about the '02. I thought the price was ridiculous, but you all are telling me that it may be within reach.

I'm trying to get an '02HD on X-plan as well (roughly .875 of MSRP+dest), but 1st, I have to dump my '02 Acura TL-S. It'll all depend on how upside-down I'll be on it. I know that I'll have no problems selling w/ my '00 Lightning, though. Maybe I'll get enough to offset the Acura.

I should probably ask this in another thread, but has anyone had experience selling to CarMax?

Never sold to Carmax but if you're buying from a dealer, you might want to trade in. I think a dealer familiar with L would give you at least as much as Carmax would. A dealer bases his offer on one of two things (that I know of). First, the offer is based on what he can expect to sell it for after he touches it up, reconditions as needed, and put it out on his lot. Or, secondly, what other dealers around the area may be willing to pay for. In the latter case, the trade-in dealer acts as an intermediary. Based on those, you may or may not be able to budge the dealer significantly on his trade-in offer.

Also, if you trade in to the dealer you're buying from, you can offset the purchase price for the tax purposes. If you buy a $34K truck, and trade in for $20K, then you only pay sales tax for $14K. For a big ticket purchase, it can be a significant saving.

You might want to check your state's laws regarding sales tax. It's not that way in Calif. No matter how much you put down or how much you get for your trade, you will pay taxes on the agreed upon purchase price. A $34K truck with a $20K equity trade will still cost you sales tax of 7.75% on $34K. Uncle Sam (local state, except for those states with no sales tax, like Oregon) will always get his cut of the deal. If I was to trade my '01 BMW ($39K trade-in value) in on the '02 HD ($38K MSRP), I would have technically have had to pay $0 tax on the new vehicle. Calif. would never allow that.

Also, I never liked the idea of paying sales tax on a car that has already been assessed a sales tax. I paid cash for mine and sales tax on the "book value". When I sell it to someone else, they will have to repay the sales tax again on the "book value." I can imagine having to pay it again if it is another state (barely), but to pay it to the same state twice is ridiculous!
