Purchasing a 2002 H.D.!!! please help!
As the subject says. I totalled my 97 flareside on Monday night.
I am planning on joining the H.D. ranks and would like any help and pointers from you guys about purchasing one. i am in the washington d.c. area and saw a sticker on one showing msrp and then a ' market adjustment' of $2000! the total was around $40,000 sticker. i have read that the invoice is just over $32000 (correct me if i'm wrong) do i just say i am not willing to pay over say $500 or so over invoice? i will be putting $12,000 down and financing the rest through ford credit. please share your experience so i don't get screwed! there are about 4 dealers in the area that sell the H.D.'s.
Thanks in advance!

I got mine for $300 over invoice. Just shop around--you may have to call a lot of dealers. You will be surprised how different they are on pricing. BTW--any Ford dealer can get you a HD... not like the Lightnings where you have to go to a SVT certified dealer to get one.
Thanks for the reply, so should i just call a bunch of different dealers in the area and work a price out over the phone? - then go in and buy? i always thought it might be better to be there to deal - they might take me more seriously. how much did you end up paying for yours and w/ what options?
thanks again.
thanks again.
Call all the Ford dealers within a reasonable distance from you... I recommend talking to the sales manager if at all possible--he will have to sign off on theal anyway so why waste time with a salesman? Tell them what you want--and what you are willing to pay. You may have to call several, don't get discouraged! Might also check around the web and see if anyone can get you a x-plan letter... I paid $33349 (invoice was 33049). Actually ended up paying $32500--had a Ford certificate for $500 from my '01 I traded and a dealer coupon for $300 also from the previous truck. My truck has the moonroof, heated seats and the cd changer delete--I just prefer the single in-dash cd. Good luck.
slingshot is right you can get a good deal on the Harley if you shop around. I paid a little over 33,000 using my X-Plan. Mine was loaded with all the options except for the engine block heater. If you don't have an X-Plan pin you won't be able to get one this year since the cut off date was 03-31-02.
Just shop around there are dealers out there that are willing to deal. You have one advantage right now with the gas prices sky rocketing. The big gas guzzlers are not flying off the shelf like they were a few months back.

Excellent. I will do just that. hopefully a dealer is nearby willing to let it off for $34,000 or less. hey - if i owned an f150 before (see sig) how do i go about getting a ford loyal discount? am i eligable? it was paid for.
thanks.
by the way - how do you guys feel about your purchase? i absolutely feel that thereis no better ballance of performance, utility, looks and luxury than this truck! none!
thanks.

I feel great about my purchase! I've owned at least one new vehicle a year for the last 9 years and can honestly say I really, really, really like this truck. Style, comfort, utility, ball to the walls acceleration. The only thing that is not attractive is the MPG but, I guess you can't have everything. By the way, are any of you 02 guys getting personal plates? Mine should be here in a week. I picked up "BLWN HD"

Yeah, i can't wait to be able to feel that charger! I prefer the H.D. over the K.R. cause it just seems more wicked looking and menacing. the king ranch looks great too but is not my personnal style with the brown leather and all. just my taste. did i mention the charger?!
I am going to be doing some serious looking around - deal hunting this weekend. the more i read these posts the more confident i get about not being jerked too much.

I test drove the H.D. last night. all i have to say is WHOA!!!!!!!!!
JEEEZE - that beast is BAD! i have to have one and will do many evil things to get one
the only first remotely negative feedback i had compared to my previous truck is the ride height, stance and how it felt turning. i think i would have to lower it another few inches front and rear for sure. and thats it!
incredible truck.

Back again people.
o.k. - i was approved for financing through ford motor credit. great. however the dealership that applied for it no longer has any h.d.'s! they are really trying to get me into lariat instead. i am tired of dealing with them and want to now shop around.
this is my question.....how do i go about finding out the information on my approved loan application from ford motor credit and can i then go to some other ford dealership with it?
any help is appreciated - i'm lost here.

If you've been approved with Ford Credit, I think you can go to just about any other dealers. Credit approval isn't done on a handshake and a wink, so Ford Credit probably knows more about you than you can recite by memory, and can certianly verifiy who you are even if you go to another dealer. Granted, I have no insight on how Ford Credit works, but it sounds reasonable, at least to me.
Just call around the dealerships. The fact that you're approved should be a bonus to them because as long as they agree to your price, it's almost a guaranteed sale. Your bargaining position may have improved!
