Level kit? Front or Rear? cant make my mind up

ok so I am debating on either dropping the back to level it or to adding spacers to the front to level it. I cant make up my mind. what do you guys think?

I have the oem rims with 305/40/22 nitto terra grapplers.

part of me wants to lift the front because it will look a little bit more truck like but then I am thinking my gas milage will go down a bit. plus I use the bed a lot for work and I tow a little trailer. wondering if the lift will make it a bit harder to do all this.

then the other part of me wants to lower in the back. might save on gas and plus im thinking it might make the access to the bed a bit easier. but im not sure if I will be happy with it lower than other trucks.

What do you guys think? I cant make up my mind!

An extra 2" lower is going to make a very minor difference in hooking up a trailer or throwing stuff in the bed. And an extra 2" up front is gonna make a pretty minor difference in your gas mileage. Either way the rear is gonna squat when towing. So really I'd say go with what you think you'll like the most.

Lower it. I had the same size tires and wheels before and I don't think I'd add 2 inches to the front with them.

But really, do what you want and don't worry about gas, etc. I will say that having the rear 2" lower, which is the height my 2wd was stock, makes it a lot easier getting things in and out of the bed. When I added 2" it was quite noticeable.

omg lol I cant settle on it. I have time to think. im kinda leaning towards lifting because in Chicago this year was bad with the snow. might be a little better to lift than to lower, I don't want to plow snow.

also quick question. I see you have a roush exhaust. how do you like it? Im pretty set on getting that if I get an exhaust I just don't know if I want the rear exit or side exit.

also I see you want to ptm your door handles, do you have any knowledge on how to get them off to paint them? thanks

Haha you can do one, see how you like it, and then do the other if you want? Just do the leveling kit though, I can tell that's what you want to do. F**k being sensible, money conscious, etc. and do what you actually want to do!

I love the Roush. It's a really well-made kit and the muffler is actually a re-branded Borla, and I think they make the best exhausts out there. I looked for a very long time before I bought it and never heard something that sounded like what I wanted. Then a buddy of mine got the kit, I heard it, and then immediately went and got it You will have to cut a few inches off of the factory exhaust pipe that the kit attaches to, but it's not bad. I "shouldn't" have had to do that, but I did.

There's a video on YouTube from 1AAuto about how to remove them, it's pretty straight forward and the tailgate one is even less work. For the tailgate, you remove the panel that is on the inside of the gate held on by 8 or so torx screws and then it's easy from there. Then you've gotta sand the hell out of them to get them smooth. I used color-match paint from automotivetouchup.com along with their clear and Valspar plastic adhesion primer. I have only done the tailgate handle so far, but will be doing the others in about 2 weeks.

I'm surprised your HD didn't have them painted from factory?

Technically, with the truck coming with factory rake, leveling the front end would make the end of the tailgate when it's down slightly lower than where its at when its left with rake.

But then again, you brought back some of the rake with bigger blocks didn't you? haha

Yeah, I'm talking about the 2" rear blocks making it noticeable. I didn't really notice much difference for the rear end when I did the front-end level. My truck has 2" added front and back, so it's right where a 4wd is stock

awesome thanks for the info. but im actually kinda bummed that I would have to cut the exhaust to make the new exhaust fit. I was thinking I could sell the stock HD exhaust for some cash.

You still can. You can sell the entire catback, though it does need to be cut "in half" once to remove it from the truck. The piece you need to cut off only helps get the new kit on and stays on the truck. Just a heads up though, nobody buys the stock exhausts and I ended up leaving mine on the curb after I basically couldn't even give it away.

Rockauto has entire H-bar grills with surround that I assume are in multiple pieces so that you can take them apart like factory ones and paint them. $38 or something like that.

Can I ask why you need a new grill surround?

I do have a factory painted black grill surround off of a black FX4, but I don't want to be responsible for shipping it because it's fragile and not real sure that I'm willing to part with it.

I'll think about it. Problem is that if I don't have that surround, it de-values my otherwise complete grill assembly. And I also wouldn't charge you a lot for it, cause what is it worth? Not a whole lot, but it's worth a good bit to the assembly as a whole.
