2002 F150 HD. Which engine should I choose

I recently traded a Harley Davidson that I out grew for an 2002 F150 Harley Davidson with no engine. Transmission still in place and in working order. I have the choice between a 1997 Cobra 4.6L DOHC and Transmission or a 2001 Expedition 5.4 L. Both have just over 100,000 miles. I would like to know opinions. The truck is not 4WD and the only towing I plan on is my 15' trailer with quads or some building materials. Any thoughts? This is my first thread so if I don't use proper post etiquette, I apologize in advance and thanks to all who reply

I say the 5.4. You'll prob have less install issues and the cams will be more like the trucks orig had. The cobra's cams would not be set up for the weight of the truck.

You'll need the 5.4 for its take off torque when hauling the trailer .......

Did that truck originally come with the supercharged motor?

Welcome....

i have the 4.6 DOHC (which is the same that was in the Cobra Mustangs) in my Mark VIII and its a hell of a motor for power and torque. Not sure how it would be in a truck though...

2001 Expedition 5.4 L would be a better choice.

the 2002 hd had the supercharged engine. You will be opening a can of worms trying to get it running with either of those engines

Does the truck have the ecu and wiring harness? Or is that all gone too? If im not mistaken the HD also had the 4r100 trans which actually would work out with that expedition along with its ecu if it had the 4r100 trans as well. But if you still have the HD ecu you will have to have it tuned for a NA application. I highly suggest trying to find the proper HD or lightning engine and put it in

Thank you to every ones suggestions

I am going with the 5.4 l sohc and programming the ecu. The wiring harness is still in place as well as all the other engine features for the truck only the engine was missing. **I am not *looking to replace it with the supercharged 5.4l lightening engine due to the fact they are prone to major issues.

Re:issues

From the small amount of research I have completed so far. I have found out that a large number of my year hd trucks have dealt with blown motors or have a lot of issues pertaining to the super charge My sister owns a lightening herself an is plagued with super charger issues. Correct me if I'm wrong that the lightening motor wasn't prone to major issues

you have been seriously misled my friend

if your sister has had eaton issues it's more than likely operator error (improper tune, pulley without a tune, 4th to 2nd kick downs, WOT shifts into OD, etc)

Your research is not very good and your sister must not properly keep her Lightning serviced if she has had problems!
Ive have been a member on a couple Lightning sites and a Harley site for quiet a wile and have never heard of any problems out of the superchargers.
The only problem is someone adding to many mods, without proper tuning and blowing up the motor.
And that's the fault of a uninformed owner most of the time.
