Dead Harley!

I was at the drive-in last night with my girlfriend, watching the third movie of the night when it happened. Right after the final race scene in The Fast and The Furious, the radio suddenly cut out. I opened the door and I think I smelled something burning, but I can't be sure. At any rate, that was all she wrote for that night. The truck would not start. It'd make a ticking noise, almost as if the starter motor had died. It wasn't the battery, although it was low. Checked the fusebox; it was fine. Stereo would not work at all, and electronics behaved weirdly (ie. blinking on and off, and lightning up all the LEDs, etc). Roadside service got me home, but not til 3 hours of searching for a tow truck.

I'm kinda ticked off right now since I secretly (not so secret anymore, huh?) have a fear of getting stranded. I thought with a new vehicle, it wouldn't happen. I was wrong. I'm taking it to a dealer today and see what's wrong. I hope they don't give me warranty grief about the K&N FPIK.

Hmmm...drive-in? Burning smell? Fast and Furious? Are you sure it's just the truck?

Okay, joking aside....keep us posted on the outcome!

Don't trust me because when it comes to vehicles and maintenance and mechanics, I'm the worst. But, that sounds like the problem I had with a Pathfinder a few years back. The problem was the alternator. Should be covered under warranty and not too exspensive. If that's not the problem, read my first sentence again :-) Good luck!

OK trust me
If the K&N install caused the truck not to run then Ford does not have to pay for repairs. Now if the truck not running was caused by anything else other than a add on piece then Ford has to pay for the repair. There is a Federal law its called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It basicly states that as long as the aftermarket part did not cause the failure then no manufacture can decline a claim on another covered part.
Its like this. Install a lowering kit on your truck and then the radio quits, Ford or the Ford dealer cannot decline the claim just because the truck was modifed by lowering it. But if the shocks start leaking and the cause was the lowering of the truck (short shocks sometimes need to be installed to properly lower) then Ford does not have to pay (the constant pounding on the shocks caused by lowering the truck) The aftermarket install had a direct cause to the failed part. In your case if the install of the K&N shorted the alternator then Ford or the dealer can decline claim. even if that is the problem.

Good luck,
dont let anyone tell you that you modified the truck and its not covered unless the modification caused the failure.

hey man i live in Dublin ,GA and my harley truck did the same thing
I went under the hood and there is a power distributer or something . but the positive wire from the batery goes to it.
i just started messing with the wires and then the light came on under the hood and that was it .
keep me informed on what the dealer says.
so i can figure it out
i took it to them one time for it and they said it was a loose wire on the computer. but i don't think so!
well i hope this helps if it strands u.

Well, I was sure that it wasn't the battery, but the dealer tells me it is. The dealer replaced the battery with a more powerful one, rated 750 amps(?). The service manager told me that the battery that came with the truck was "inadequate." That was a news to me, since the truck came from the factory like that...

At any rate, I got my truck back today. It drives wonderfully, just as well as before, if not better. Maybe the computer got reset and that may account for that slightly different feel. All was fine until some idiot in a mini-mart parking lot almost backed into me. I had to swerve to my right quickly to avoid him, and then quickly back to the left to avoid a light pole. I didn't even have time to honk. His rear bumper was less than 6 inches from me. *sigh* Why won't people look before they back out, and back out that fast?

Anyway, I was surprised how nimble this truck was.

I've also had a few close calls.

I had a few close calls also. OLnce going down Blackfoot trail Max speed is 80 km and some also came to a screeching stop at the first light inches away. Than at the second light right after the first did it again but was so close he had to swerve up onto thwe grass. Me and my buddy were trying to decide if we should kick his A$$ . Also some A$$ from out of town fliped a U-Turn on a back road not thinking I was right behind him. Had to lock up the breaks there. I can't believe some of the **** people do. Pay attention to the road eh?

hay low rider

your list of vehicles as long as mine

I will be adding one more to the list soon
A 2002 electric blue z06 corvette
almost bought a red 2001 Z06 last month but the interior was black and the general manager showed me a picture of the torch red interior and that was what I had to have, but they could not find one. So then I seen the new color "electric blue" thats what I want now.
Good thing I waited till 2002 too, car now has more horsepower and the horse power rating is going to be on the label now under the Z06 emblem, So you can tell a 2001 from a 2002.
The only other difrence is in the price tag about $2000 to $3000 more than the 2001 model

Later

Tampa you will love you Vette. It's one of my favorite cars that I have owned. Me and my brother were looking into trading in the Vette for a ZO6, but haven't settled on it yet. Just got the Rousch so were still playing around with that. The Vette sure was fun to customize. Put alot of time into the baby.

Question Costs of owning a Vette?

Wow, wonder about how much one's insurance cost is going to be on that new hotrod Vette, Tampa?

Was talking to my agent the other day and he was telling me how much more a person has to pay these days for a Vette and it is a considerable amount!

It not just a considerable amount, It's a kick in the *****

It is quite exspenssive to insure but you will be happy your paying for it. In my opinion it's worth every penny. It may be costly but you will sure as hell have fun. Mybrother and I have an unbelievable insurance bill. Just look at the sig. Our insurance agent just loves us. We have made him a wealthy man. Espicially with our driving records. I swear our payments go up by the month. And as soon as we get the new BMW we are gonna be broke. Oh well. I guess it's worth it. Tampa trust me. Go for it. Anytime you have to make a payment. Just pull the Vette into a quite little parking lot. And pull a dry cement dounut. Send out the thickest cloud of smoke and pull away laughing. It all becomes worth it again.

I got my insurance cost in control

Before I got the Ranger I was first looking at a 2001 Mustang GT, then a 2001 Benz c320 w/sport package, at the dealer I called my insurance agent and asked her how much the coverage was on the Benz and it was $3 cheaper than the Mustang but the Benz cost $21,000 more.

My agent loves me too cause I have 5 vehicles insured with full coverage on all 5. My home owners insurance is also with this company and I have two life insurance policys with them. I want as much insurance with this company cause if something happens and they want to drop me I would be taking away alot of business from them. by the way the company is State Farm and for all that coverage its less than $350.00 a month. 5 fully covered vehicles, 2 life insurance policys and Home owners. I think that is cheap for the company I have.

When I call my agent she does not ask what happen now, she ask what did you buy now.

I have not called her about the Corvette, but I think it would be nice to know what the coverage costs are going to be, by the way State Farm does have a low milage discount, after a year of ownership and after they check the odometer they will give it to you.
