Flowmasters on the HD!
Fellas, what's the purpose of a Flowmaster other than changing the sound? Also, went to the site from Jax and there are a few Flowmaster 40's and 50's. Which one to get?
Thanks.

Grand Muffler, in South Cobb Drive, Marietta. Sorry, I don't have the street address, but you can find it easily from the street. I basically took Delk over I-75, and circled around the base until I ran into it.
See if they'll install FM 40 for you. They told me "it wouldn't fit" but then, it's probably just a matter of adding a pipe to fit. I'm happy with mine right now. FM 50. Not too loud, not too soft.
BTW, on the invoice, labor was only $40, so if you walk in with your own muffler (from any one of the on-line places), you might save a bit. As is, Ipaid $120 for the muffler itself.
I'm going to the Varsity on the 21st. It's real close to where I live, and I'd like to compare and swap tales.
baddgene: Mostly sound. I'm deeply skeptical about horsepower gain claims. But I figured, with the K&N and muffler, I at least took care of intake and exhaust so the engine can work to its potential without being restricted at either ends. Really appreciable power gains are probably out of reach without something more radical, like a blower, but we can kinda inch along the line with smaller mods. I think this point was made earlier and better by other people, but you can't just add together individual HP claims and come up with the total HP gain. K&N Gen II FPIK may free up a few ponies, and the freer flowing exhaust might also, but since they kind of address the same problem, I can't add the two HP claims together and come up with a number. If K&N claimed 10 and exhaust claimed 10, the total HP gain, if any, may not be higher than 11 or 12.
I can definitely see power pullies and electric fan mods adding power. There are reasons why people turn off the air conditioner when they're drag racing at the track.
So they are in the scopes, so to speak, as my next mods.

I think mostly intown, I average around 12 mpg. I think after K&N, it may have picked up 1 mpg, but it's really too early to tell. On the highway, I can get around 16 mpg, even with fairly fast cruising, 85 mph or so. Hehe, I hear ya, 10 mpg... But we didn't get this for its frugal way with the gas.
BTW, I have kept a gas log, with every drop accounted for. 47 days, 3400 miles, and around 14 fillups.
