Ok..so I go to the Leer installer place today..and 5 hours later..my tonneau is installed.
Man..what a nightmare. Just to clear some things up for those of you who are getting these.
1. If your the first one in your area ~i was~ the place has NO CLUE what to do to install this tonneau..they dont know about the lock cyl..they dont know how to put it together etc. This is a brand new leer product..unlike anything else they have sold.
2. That little lock cyl is a BITCH to get in..I know..I helped them do it. Oh man what a nightmare to get that little cyl to latch into the turning wheel assembly. I hope mine was just a fluke.
3. This install facility informed me that they received 10 ~yes 10~ tonneaus from leer for this truck. They had to send 7 ~yes 7~ back to Leer due to damage incurred during transport. This really does suck that after all the time we have waited..the tonneaus are being shipped in carboard boxes with very very little padding. The only foam in the box is on the corners.
Just my $.02 I hope everyone gets theirs soon.

Thank you JaxHarley.
Your posts have been informative and useful. For those of us still waiting, even bad news is good news as any news helps to keep our hopes up. But, your detail is what makes being here worthwhile.
Again, thanks for the update.
Hope others will do the same as they get their tonneaus.

the install went smoothly
the lock install does take some work
but the rest of the install should be normal as the rest of the system is leer
the leer dealer may be new to installing covers or something.
the only thing diffrent is the lock but the rest is all leer, the rails and all
its a nice cover.
I would not condem Leer. they produced a really nice product here, its Ford who delayed the release of the cover so long, they wanted to see it installed on one before they started shipping.
by the way my installed took all of 40 min.
total time included, driving in and deliverying it back to me 40 min. total.
the lock took the most time yes but the rest was just a cover install. the only other thing that took a little time was the final adjustment! By the way did they install the cover on the truck then put the lock in?
Mine they had a lift that held the cover while they installed the lock and then installed the cover on the truck. Just wondering. Also on the shipping part that is not leer its the shipper that shipped the cover and how do you know the installer did not damage them, they say this is a new cover to them. this just dont sound right to me. the company that installed mine was professional and all, why would they even tell you that 7 were damage ( i think they damaged them and were blaming them on leer or the shipper. things dont sould right here I am sorry I always think positive but somethings up. mine only took 40 min total time, with the adjustment and lock install combined.

There are always 2 sides to every story..Im just relaying my experience. As I said..I hope it was a fluke. However we do NOT get the option of where we have the tonneau installed...and with mine being the first one...well...I guess I was the "guinea pig".
I wasnt blaming leer outright..however they not ford are responsible for the cover being installed properly ~ford is responsible for it taking so long
~...hence the requirement of installation being done at a "Leer authorized dealer".

boy, now I'm getting more nervous when the cover arrives for installation. Here in Canada, Ford supposedly is having the covers shipped to a dealer--they asked us to designate one on the certificate, not a Leer installer. The one they put on a 01 screw needed some reallignment since it didn't open without a lot of help. On the other hand both the parts and body shop manager seem really helpfull, they did a great install on my HD bedliner and other bits, so I'm sure they'll do it right--once it gets here
Sure looks good tho--nice bonus for our trucks!
