Tire Pressure??
Can someone please tell me what is the recommended tire pressure as per the sticker on the door? I just got a set of wheels with 275/45/20s tires and they came at 41 psi.
Thanks in advance.

HI!... The "ALL AROUND" best tire preasure is 32-33PSI. This has been proven to give the best tire wear and FUEL milage. I run my fronts at 32PSI and my rears at 28PSI. If I were to run my rears at 41PSI, I would burn my tires off all the way through 2ND gear!LOL!

Neal, you're not running 275-45-20's. I'm with Harleyrules. 40 Psi runs well for me. A little stiff, but I's rather have a bumpier ride as opposed to wrecking a $1050.00 rim. But that's just me.

I just got mine last Friday and felt it pulling to the right. Turns out the right tire had about 31 psi and the left had 40 psi. Set all four tires to 35 psi per the sticker in the drivers side door jam and the truck drives better.

my tires came at 44 from the dealer; tried 40 but felt a little spongy so am sticking to 42 to 44. I'm used to hard tires (g force Goodrich on an SVT Contour) and like the crisper cornering with the higher pressure. A lot depends on the roads in your area. You gotta protect your rims as well. Anything less than 40 tho doesn't do justice to the truck in my opinion tho.
I have worked for goodyear (the goodyear company, not a dealer} and for other tire Companys, I work for Ford now and my 2000 HD F-150 says 35 psi front and rear. That is what I run and that is what I recommend. Now the 2001 supercrew maybe another pressure but I don't have that info here. I will check and get back with you. Ford sets there tire pressure recommendations based on safety and handleing, its not set for comfort or treadwear.
Hey Tampa-Harley: given the latest blow out between Ford and Firestone/Bridgestone on the Explorer situation I'm not sure I'd put much credence on Ford's recomendations: 28psi on an Explorer just seems too low for any tire with all that weight to carry as well as the heat you guys enjoy down south
I've been using performance tires on my cars since'73 and along with most guys in the car clubs I've belonged to, tend to go halfway between the tire/vehicle manuf re tire pressure; have always met or exceeded tire wear mileage while retaining various vehicles' max handling capabilities. Agreed that most people prefer a softer ride and therefore go with lower pressures but I'm more comfortable with a bit more air to give crisper turnins etc. The roads my HD mainly rides are 2 lanes, fairly smooth with some bumpy sections--just bumped up from 38 back up to 42 today after experimenting again and I just like the road feedback more at 42. Keep us informed. Thanks.

I just bought a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer this weekend and it has Firestone Wilderness ATs on it. Guess Ford hadn't cut the ties with Firestone yet when this one was built! Also have to wonder how come Mercury division didn't get involved with the big tire recall? Basically, the Mountaineer seems to be an Explorer with some addl. features and, perhaps, more insulation.
Anyhow, the recommended pressure is 30, the sidewall max pressure is 35. I put in 33. I agree with casey k above nearly 100%.
