Cool Accessories for the HD?

Well I've had about 2 months now to enjoy my 2000 HD, it is great! I haven't done anything besides put ventvisors on it so far. I'm planning on getting the front windows tinted soon and some headlight covers (carbon fiber or smoke?) I would also like to get a superchip, poweraid throttle body spacer, and either a K&N airfilter or intake system. Does anyone have any other suggestions for accessories on my already great HD??? I also like the sound of the dual exhaust with the lightning muffler, but I would like my baby to rumble and let everyone know that I'm there! Any suggestions on that? I would like to keep the tips somehow but wouldn't absolutely have to. Thanks!

For sure, get the Superchip and get the FIPK system. You'll add 26 HP with the chip and about 15 with the FIPK. The truck will drive much better and you will love it all the more.

I've heard that the throttle body spacer is more hype than actual gain, but, perhaps, others will disagree.

On the exhaust, you basically have the Lightning exhaust now and if you want it louder and are going to change it, do that before you get the chip and then talk to Mike at Superchips to make sure you have the right program on your chip. I don't think most systems make a huge difference, but you do want to find out if you're going to change it. (Personally, I'd leave the exhaust as is although I wish it were somewhat louder, too.)

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advice HarleyGuy, I will definetly probably getting a superchip now with the advice from you! And about the exhaust, I'm still undecided about it, because I want it a little louder but at the same time don't really want to mess with it like you said. Do you think I should go with the K&N Airfilter or the Intake system? Thanks again!!!

Cool

For sure don't just get the just the air filter (it is worth only about 5 HP). You'll just end up getting the whole system in the end and waste your $$$ on the only the air filter. Get the whole FIPK system. It's easy to install and comes with simple directions and photos to show you how. Will take about an hour or less with hand tools.

If you opt for the FIPK, here is the message I got from the K&N tech re the part numbers: "Use 57-2514-2. The 57-2514-1 will not be street legal for the 2000, and will not be covered under the 10yr million mile warranty." In other words, get the part number he gives above.

Also, if you want to see what my installation looks like take a look at my post over here: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/001503.html

The muffler is a 4 tube design, the Lightning is a 3 tube, they are pretty different. I'll be putting a Magnaflow on mine. It's basically a perforated Y pipe in a stainless steel packing. I prefer this over the chambered type pipes like the Flomaster. I'll eventually do the chip but I'm going to make my own intake that will be a cold/ram air intake. The Airraid and Airforce aren't quite the same.

Thanks again HarleyGuy! I was leaning towards the K&N FIPK but now I'm also thinking about the Airaid system too? I figure about the only difference is the look but would like to know if there are any differences in the power of either one? What's the difference b/w the street legal intake system and the "not street legal"? And how does the "not street legal" void the warranty?

All the FIPK's add about 14 HP to a 5.4 engine. The K&N is CARB certified to have meet emmission standards in all 50 states. You can't pass an emmissions test if it's not certified. I got the K&N and it was very easy to install, and mounts solidly. You'll feel a noticable difference in power, and the sound is great!! I also like the look of the black plastic since it matches everything else under the hood. I just wish the silicon hose was black too, but we can't have everything I guess! You can't go wrong with either one though.
