Question Harley F150 Engine

I was wandering about the engine in my Harley truck?
SOmeone told me that it is the same engine as the lighting except it does have the supercharger.

Also i was wandering about the B&M electronic shift kit.
Will it void the warenty on my transmistion?
Or shorten the life of it?

Hey,

The Lightning engines include lower compression, foraged pistons. Also, they include an 80mm TB. Same block though.

Hi lewdog99,

No, the engine in your HD model F-150 is the same as all other 2000 & up 260-hp 5.4's, and has very little in common with the Lightning's 5.4 motor.

The B&M electronic shift improver, the $40 unit, if that is what you're talking about, will indeed firm the shifts, but I wouldn't recommend using it, and here's why: all it does is splice into the ECU's wiring harness, so it can spike the voltage signal being sent from the ECU to the shift solenoids. This makes them hammer much harder, and shorten the service life of an already-weak component, the shift solenoids.

The documentation that comes with that B&M unit will in fact warn you not to use it for any length of time on it's highest setting, as that will very quickly damage the shift solenoids.

If you don't want to use a performance chip to properly take care of *all* the issues making your automatic transmission shift like it does, from upshift to downshift delays, transiontal retards, etc. in addition to line pressure, then we would advise using a proper mechanical shift kit rather than that B&M electronic shift improver device, as it will be much better for your transmission, and give you harder shifts.

There are certainly some people using that B&M unit and enjoying it, but due to what it does, hammering the shift solenoid to achieve a harder shift, that just wouldn't be my choice.

Best of luck whatever you decide,

2001 has a 90 mm mass-air. TB is 2x57mm.

Don't you hate it when your pistons have to forage for themselves ?
